There are 3 sizes of battery tenders that I know of, the 800 mA, for motorcycles and lawn equipment. The 1.25 A for most automotive uses, and the 4 A model for larger trucks like a 3/4 or 1 ton diesels or dual battery setups.

And then there's this one. 2, 8 or 15 amp, with selectable battery type. I used it on the Mustang until I got an even better one from Griot's. Now the Battery Tender is hooked up to my Jeep.

Two things to keep in mind when the car is sitting idle.
First, make sure you actually lock the car with the remote. Otherwise the car is in a constant ready state of searching for the key fob, which will use up the battery.
Second, in the bitter cold, batteries will naturally lose power, and need a constant trickle. The 1.25 amp tender may not be enough to sustain in the cold.

If I go and unlock the car, do nothing else, then lock again with remote, the charger will start at the red leds. But will quickly go through all the leds, until solid green again. Usually within about a minute or two.

If you don't drive it every week,it's a good thing to have.

You don't need to spend a fortune for a good one.

Battery Tender junior unit is more than adequate.

This 100%. I have 2 of these I've been using on 2 cars for the past 8 years and they work just fine. Sure it will take longer to get to a steady green state than a larger one but who cars if the car is sitting for 3-5 months anyway. :)

I use this on a 1949 Hudson 6 volt. Keeps it perfect during long sits.
