Can we please drop the conceit that not driving a manual also precludes you from being an enthusiast? Further, can we also stop assuming that people only choose auto because they can't drive manual?
It's not conceit when you know so many people who treat their vehicles as little more than necessary evils. I've got a whole neighborhood full of such drivers, with only a couple of exceptions other than myself.

When I use the term "non-enthusiast", I'm strictly applying that term to the average motorist who has little or no interest in driving at all. People who drive only because they have to; perhaps your stereotypical sedan and SUV/CUV buyers.

I suppose I can type a few more words every time to clarify who I'm aiming that little barb at.

Go back and see if my light editing meets with your approval.

Newbie here.......... read through all 304 posts, and I checked my car to find out which one I have.

How do I tell the difference between this manual and automatic thing?
We’ll if you can stick your left foot up your ass while you’re driving it’s an automatic. :cwl: :like:

Norm disagrees, assuming he can contort his leg that far. You only need the clutch when starting out from a stop. and if you're handy enough that can be done with the right leg. Or a piece of wood (cane?) in the left hand.

at the risk of angering Lord Longshanks over there in south jersey, autos are for people who drive appliances or who think the sum total of 'muscle car experience' is stomping the gas pedal to the floor. :)

I am Spartacus, er Robert the Bruce.

You forgot the part where after stomping the gas you lock the wheel in the direction of the nearest crowd.
nearest crowd of uppity Scottish peasants, you meant...

(this is what happens when I watch yet another rendition of Longshanks vs Scotland, nee 'Outlaw / King' on Netflix while rewriting C code some flaming moron wrote who doesn't understand how to manage string lengths ala strcpy/strlcpy and friends - you got an F on the assignment in freshman year comp-sci 101 if you wrote code this stupid and clueless.)

Maybe the way you drive, gramps

I'd be bored too if I took 30 seconds to get to 60 while I row-row-row-my-gears gently down the street.
In his defense, he doesn’t take it over 2000RPM, you know, because of that “confounded racket” it makes …

So I’m getting ready to write a super obnoxious, mean, cruel and hateful response to your asinine post………

And then I realized you had a Shelby. Damn you Brad. :explode::like:
Not that there's anything wrong with it...
Autos are fine for some people.

the bottom graphic needs a few more clarifying call-outs
  • harsh shifts cause whiplash medical injury claims
  • hanging shifts
  • ECU can't make up it's mind shifts
  • solenoid tomfoolery or it doesn't work
  • won't let go of overdrive even when gas on the floor
  • double the price of manual
  • double the cost to service (if it even can be)
  • severe atrophy of left leg and right arm (LH drive)

I just want to get everyones views on Automatic vs Manual Mustangs and your views on 6speed vs 10speed
Came from a 2013 Shelby GT500 to my 2019 GT Auto and I have to tell you, I REALLY miss having a manual car. I have been thinking about buying a fun beater like an older BMW M3 just to have something to play around in.
