I have been driving for over 40 years. When I first got my license I was warned about "lugging" the engine, ie; full throttle in a high gear at a low rpm, because pre-ignition could damage the motor. It has been the case with every car I have owned since. Today they have coined a new acronym "LSPI" and everyone acts like it is something new.
