I actually have the question in to the dealer parts counter and i'm waiting to hear back. Reason I'm curious is the written estimate given to me for MY car is the non-PP engine number. Makes me nervous...
Did you ever get a definitive answer as to the differences? Did they put the PP part in yours?

Thanks man! Fortunately my baby is back in one piece and on the road again. Made it out of the dealer with a new engine, turbo, misc. parts, labor and Ford Performance Pro Cal/Intake installed (labor only) for $6,500.00.
Did you ever get a definitive answer from the dealer on what specifically caused the engine to let go? Can you tell us what exactly broke on the engine?

For what's it's worth, my spare engine that I built was from a non-PP car and I didn't find any difference between it and my PP engine. I looked it over and had it fully disassembled without seeing any differences.

How's the baffles in the oil pan? Are there any? This is my suspicion on the most obvious (potential) difference. I haven't dropped my oil pan, so I don't know ;)

I'll have to look back through some pictures. I don't recall seeing a difference in that right off-hand though.

Unfortunately, I did not. The parts manager said that was the engine part number it said to order based on my VIN number. I sent a query to Tasca and I'm hoping they can tell us.

I know Cyl #2 let go. I know the rod broke and punched thru the engine wall and I know the piston broke up (it was in pieces). Now, did the piston crack and cause the rod to break or visa versa, I don't know. They wanted additional labor for tear down and diagnostics if I wanted to go that route and said there were no guarantees so I opted not to do it. They say the fact that I had a Turbosmart WGA on the vehicle points to overboost. I call a tentative BS as it was a 7psi spring and the engine was "tuned" for it. Max boost I had seen on logs was 22.67psi. so about 1.2psi more than I had seen with the stock WGA.

Dealers can say some DA stuff sometimes. Like dude, I eat sleep and breath this stuff. Don't tell me my exhaust causes my Throttle body to throw a code and stay closed (true story, warranty voided by even having a MAP CAI). I wipe myself with the unintelligent words the come from service mouth

I just bought a 2018 Ecoboost and I don't plan on any engine mods. How are the stock engines holding up?

Stock engines hold up pretty well depending on if you plan to do any mods at all, tuned they have no issue but once you start going crazy with them you need to start thinking about doing an upgraded engine

Going strictly by the reported numbers on this site (based on the 15-17 model years), your chances of experiencing a catastrophic engine failure on a stock motor are very, very small. From what I can find online, the percentage of stock EcoBoost motors experiencing catastrophic failures are about the same as any other manufacturer's engines. There are literally millions of these things on the road around the world, with the overwhelming majority operating trouble free.

I paid $7,000, included motor, turbo, intake and labor. Came with 3 year warranty(NOT from Ford).

No mods planned other than possibly a CAI. This is probably going to be the fastest car we ever owned bone stock!! We are really looking forward to taking delivery.

My wife's been driving a 2014 Escape with a 2.0L Ecoboost since new; it currently has nearly 80k on the clock. We've followed the recommended maintenance schedule to the letter, including following the oil change recommendation from the computer. It has gotten the same mileage since we bought it, it idles and runs smooth, pulls strong, doesn't smoke or leak/burn oil, and most of all she's happy with it. The only real money we've put in aside from acquisition cost is we upgraded the Infotainment to Sync 3 (it came with MyFordTouch, which was okay, but no Android Auto). I wouldn't hesitate to hop in her car and drive it coast-to-coast if needed. It's been one of the most trouble-free and reliable cars we've ever owned, and that includes several Hondas and Toyotas.
