More 2015 Mustang GT Underhood Pics

Here's a bunch more pics underhood.

While we were at the 2014 NAIAS we had the opportunity to snap a few pics of a 2015 Mustang GT's engine bay. And by opportunity I mean that we caught all the Ford employees looking the other way and jimmied the hood latch. While it was cool to see what to expect from the S550 it was instantly apparent that this car was in no way a finished product. Many things under-hood just scream "mule car". In fact, I believe this particular car was equipped with a few parts from the 2011-2014 Mustang GT engine/drivetrain. Check it out:


My old enemy, the prop rod returns. I was hoping it would be absent on the 2015, but I suppose it'll help keep Red Line Tuning in business.

The layout is very familiar. It appears that a resonator box has been added to the sound-symposer tube.

As I've mentioned, this car is a prototype. I'm hoping this degas bottle isn't the final design, as it is quite ugly. I suspect it is what we should be expecting.

Looks like we'll be getting a one piece radiator cover.

You can see how the engine-bay narrows towards the front.

The car does strike a handsome 3/4 profile with the hood up. It'll look even better once owners ditch the prop rod.

The airbox is very similar in design to the 2011-2014 cars.

It appears that the new strut-tower brace triangulates with the firewall. I feel this is an improved design.

It's obvious that this isn't finished wiring.

This appears to be about a 70% finished version of the engine cover we can expect one the 2015 Mustang. I poked around quite a bit and the intake on this particular engine appeared to be from a 2011-2014 GT. I couldn't see an evidence of the IMRC system that will be on the S550.

This decal identifies the airbox as an engineering part.

Just for good measure we'll include this pic of an EcoBoost powered 2015 F-150. The intake scoop is a nice addition.

Thanks for the pics. I already know my first 3 under hood appearance mods.

1. Black plastic or painted coolant reservoir.
2. Ditch the ugly sound tube.
3. Ditch the prop rod for some hood struts. (If they can be accommodated)

Now is the pic of the EB F-150 still pre-production also? If not the reservoir in the S550 may just stay that way.

So as ugly as the radiator overflow tank up front is, does anyone recognize this:

They still have the same tank in the same spot, they just paint the top of it / use black plastic on top so it doesn't look so offensive. I imagine on the production models of the s550 they will do something similar

As it's been stated, I would SERIOUSLY take everything we're seen under the hood with a grain of salt. I mean come on, the damn engine cover isn't even complete (if they're even using the same style engine cover as the current car). At such an early stage, I'm really not stressing any part of the engine compartment design other than the prop rod. The prop rod needs to GO, NOW! I don't give a crap what other cars are still using it.

And, as far as the sound tube is concerned, I do believe it's kind of stupid, but I'm very indifferent to it.

It does, and it also offers simplicity. That's the fact so you just keep ROFLYAO since you have nothing smart to say.

As I said R35 GT-R has one, and so does the Evo X - you may hate it but some people like it. I like the prop rod - it's old school, it works, simple as that.

It seems to me the strut bar has a little bit more clearance over the engine vs. the old and if that's true then the engine probably sits a touch lower. This already considering the strut towers on the new Mustang are themselves lower vs. the old.

Interesting observation. Nice engine bay, other than the coolant over-flow reservoir that looks like it belongs in Charlie's chocolate factory.

The previous STB was much flatter, causing the tighter clearance. This new STB has more of a curve to it creating more room between it and the engine.
