Just bought a sweet 2016 GT Convertible with Performance Package. As I understand it, this brings 19x9.5" wheels and staggered tires 255/275. Would it be unsafe or just sacrifice performance, to put 255's all around? Dont really want to do it, but having trouble getting 275's from my usual source. Thanks, a S550 newb.

The 9.5" wheels are the rears; fronts are 9". The 255s might fit on the rear wheels, but they'll be stretched and have a smaller diameter. Why not find a different tire source? There are many choices of tire brands and stores available for the 255/275 combo.

Pricing is pretty similar between the two, to maintain factory driving dynamics I’d suggest keeping the stagger.

Wheel widths are staggered as well.

If you want to save a few bucks a reputable all season is perfectly fine.

Me and most of the people here like high performance rubber. Most will run in here and suggest the Michelin PS4S, but if you’re just cruising and want a safe bit of rubber that you’re rolling on most stuff is fine.

I think it wasn't available with auto transmission - from what I remember.

Check the wheel and tire fitment for the manufacturer, but for many makes 19" 255 will go fine on 9.5 rims. This was the case when I was looking for winters for my GT PP.

That said, 275s are easy to come by. If you are having issues with the Tirerack.com giving you a matched staggered set this is because of a quirk in their website and speed rating mismatch between front 255 and rear 275 for some manufacturers. Just search for each size separately. 255/40/19 and 275/40/19.

I know there’s the other larger axle but thread on here - and a few others along with this one.

Isn’t the axle nut supposed to be a nut that is designed as a torque locking nut so that it cannot come loose? Aren’t these a nut where the hole is slightly oblong and it “locks” once torqued to the axle stud?

I’m not seeing how any of these can be breaking free at the torque values presented and recommended by the manufacturer (Ford).

Is the problem with the composition of the nut where the metal is too soft allowing the nut to back off or break loose after it’s torqued?

In the larger axle nut thread I recall people posting a revised axle nut part number and some had posted images of the differences in original part vs. revised. If the revised part is still backing off, then there’s another underlying issue that should be researched since this seems to be such a prevalent issue with the S550.

Does anyone know what the S650 axle nut looks like, its torque values and/or part number? Was it revised or redesigned after the S550?
Phil, you put your reply in the wrong thread.

New twist. I can get new takeoffs in 18" P255/45R18 from a 2024. Cheap. Would they fit my 16 with factory PP1 setup? Thinking of keeping two sets of wheels one for Winter and one with summer tires. What the difference between PP1 and PP2? Thanks

It really depends on the wheels but most likely will not fit over your brake calipers.

If its a true PP car with Brembo brakes up front, the 18's wont clear them. 19's are required.... I would just get what is on the car. All season's are great. The Continental DWS 06 or the Michelin Pilot All Season 4 are both great options. I personally have ran both tires and they do great unless you are doing hard core cornering or track days.
