I wonder why the variance in experience with these have been soo drastic? What’s the missing piece of the puzzle? As I’ve said before, mine has been rock solid for X years and countless miles now. It’s even saved me from myself and killing a battery a few times.

I have a suspicion its a combination of Forscan programming, 175 vs 200a alternators, and specific model of battery. I had issues with two of my factory alternators (200a ones) and when I dumped the heated seats - I bought a 175a one and have had zero issues in the last 5 years.

All my alternator issues were before I went lithium battery. Only issue I've had is the first one I bought was the motorcycle version and I overdischarged. I'm still on my original one from 2019.

I’d really, really like to get this problem solved because I’m an absolute snob when it comes to weight and balance on my cars and motorcycles 😂 It’s borderline OCD at this point.

Knowing there’s unnecessary weight on the car—or having the ability to remove it but not having the time, resources, or parts to do it—literally keeps me up at night. Meanwhile normal people are counting sheep… I’m over here mentally corner-weighting the car at 2 a.m. or thinking if I were to grind the end off of nuts I can save x amount of grams...I got issues lol

With plans to go ESS soon, dropping some battery weight would help offset the extra pounds I’m about to bolt onto the nose of this thing. My brain refuses to let me add boost without finding a way to “pay back” some of the weight penalty first....hell I don't even keep windshield washer fluid in the car any more.. free -8lbs :)

It has a ton to do with draw. As long as you aren't engaging ABS, or the traction control, or tuning your mag ride, I think you will be good.

For me, the DSC controller I think threw a lot of power (Even if milliamps) at bits of the suspension, in combination with abs engaging and turning in. That caused big fluctuations on the cars system, which then caused the ATX to freak out, which then told the car "I can't do that" then everything broke and nothing worked.

FWIW - you're def onto something. I do think this is an issue between the Ford "smart" charging system and the BMS. All lithium's are temperamental in these cars. I know of a few folks who had issues with DSCs and stock batteries. Must put something outside of a window in the system's guardrails and it freaks out. I was really unimpressed with the system.

I now run my alternator completely standalone and have zero issues. Charges at a solid 14.4v. Understand the benefits of controlling it - but its not worth the "charging system service now" errors. I know AJ Hartman had a ton of issues on his 350 as well. He eventually just unplugged the control connector and they went away.

Agreed. I mean my car is just about 9 years old now, arguably 10 in September. The BMS in the car is 10 years old. But the BMS in the ATX is relatively new. I can see the tech in each not being able to talk to one another. 9 years is an eternity in tech development.
