For one thing the S550 got hosed on stats. The magazines that reviewed it couldn't drive the car and posted abysmal 12.9 and 12.8 1/4 miles. The car is easily capable of a 12.5 and loses the edge to the Camaro due to tires. Then there is the huge discrepancy in weight. I ran my base GTPP across a scale with 1/4 tank and it came in at 2690lbs (magazines say 2800lbs WRONG). Plus I have always been a chevy guy (still own two) and the Camaros are just ugly.

I've said it before but the s550 was more about the car growing up then just making a better s197. The Camaro is fast but its interior is bad and it's ugly in my opinion. i feel like Ford's goal was to make the s550 a better all round car that you can live with vs previous Mustangs and make it more competitive with the 4 series etc.. type cars. The interior is a lot better even in base form compared to other Mustangs.

I keep reading that the last gen 1LE beat the 2015 mustang but I'm pretty sure it lost all comparisons even if it was faster. Its ride was criticized for being hard and the interior was said to be cheap.

Overall the new Mustang is awesome IMO.

Sure, there are some aspects that aren't perfect, but very few cars are flawless.

It isn't as fast as the new Camaro, but everyone should have known that would be the case as soon as Ford released the HP numbers and they were 20 HP down on the LT1 (which everyone should have known would end up in the Camaro). If you want awesome low-end torque, the LT1 is for you. The Coyote runs a bit better up top IMO, and is therefore better for a track car. Maybe adding dual-mode injection (direct and port combined) will allow a few more HP, but that also adds complexity and weight, so not sure how much a benefit that will have. Maybe boosting the redline to 7500 and adjusting the design to take advantage of that, or maybe going with the PTWA cylinders and boosting displacement to 5.2 will help with power delivery. Either option would be pretty sweet.

It doesn't handle as well as the new Camaro either, at least not out of the box. However, it is easy and inexpensive to add shocks/springs/camber to tailor the handling to your individual needs. I think Ford should add an even sportier handling pack than the GT/PP, and also offer the Magnetic Shocks from the GT350 as an option.

The weight is probably the only area that isn't relatively easily addressed. However, it's not as though Ford just added weight for no reason. The car is much more livable than previous versions. The IRS has greatly improved handling, especially on rough surfaces, the interior is very nice, and the car looks excellent.

IMO the Mustang has a great platform, and is ready to be optimized to whatever the buyer wants through the aftermarket.

The Camaro is great out of the box, but has some issues that are more difficult to address, like ergonomics and styling. If you are OK with those, then it will also be a great car.

I prefer the Mustang, even though it isn't as fast. While there are aspects I wish were different, I don't find it disappointing at all.

Yep my base PP with me out of the car was 2690. Maybe the scale was off a little but it still isn't as heavy of a car as people say.
So now you add 3/4 tank of gas or 12 gal, that adds about 75lbs. So your curb weight would be 3765lbs. Now yours is a base while the test car was a fully loaded premium. So there 3800 weight is about right.

Well, first my '10 GT (315hp) beat the new back then Camaro 5 (426) in quite a few comparisons. My car weights around 3,500 lbs and has the track pack. Second, with its torch red paint, it's still a headturner believe or not and a lot of people have asked me if it's new. They can't believe it's a 2010. This is the car I want to start learning how to track. I bought mine back in January because I couldn't afford the S550 premium GT/PP and I was dying to drive a V8 (I always loved the exhaust sound of the 2010). In a year or so, I'll be ready for a $40k plus car, but the mixed performance reviews and the quality issues people are having here in the forum has got me thinking twice.
It seams like your REAL hung up on what magazines have to say. Your basically saying your very satisfied with your 2010 but your afraid you'll be disappointed in a Car that has 120 HP More than you. Has an interior that is makes the S197s look like it was made in the 50s. (I know. I had a 2012 premium) And will run circles around your car in the handling dept. I also used to own a 2011 Camaro and I recommend you sit in that disaster movie before you spend your 40K. Or maybe buy a BMW. Motor Trend loves those!;)

if i was shopping for a car today, and not last year, without a doubt, i would be purchasing a 1SS camaro
If I was shopping for a car today. I'd still buy the Mustang. You can always make the Mustang faster. Your stuck with that ergonomic nightmare of an interior no matter how much power it makes stock with the Camaro.

My theory is that in 3 years Ford is going to sacrifice the current gt350 for a faster lighter gt. Upcoming gt350 will also be faster but to compete with the six gen camaro Ford really has to push the gt beyond the current gt350!

Personally look wise I think Ford designed the Mustang for more sophisticated people. People who like quality interior and aggressive but restrained exterior.
The Camaro on the other hand is for those who wants the boy racing red and crazy looking exterior kinda people. And whoever came up with the center vents needs to be shot in the head. They wanted to put them down there either to freeze or burn the right hand just so that they can have the gimmicky temperature adjustment ring around them is stupid. It's form over function.

Simply put...to my eye...the S550 Mustang is a better looking vehicle!

The new Camaro is a nicely engineered package...but the exterior styling is just too boring...looks to much like the previous model...

Just my 2 cents!

The camaro looks like ass. And to the people who said the 6.2L LS is superior to the coyote, prove it. 11:1 compression, can rev to 8k, has 4 cams, a crazy computer.
