Well thankfully I live in Colorado...if you break into my home we have a law that is actually called the "make my day" law. If I shoot you I won't be in trouble, actually the law goes much further than that in the good guys favor. Happens a few times a year and folks don't go to jail for it.

All about self preservation but please reconsider the round you're using for home defense so the neighbor doesnt end up dead too. Unless it's the one crying about the noise apparently...

There are two things that should stop you from shooting someone unless you are 100% convinced that your life is in actual danger

1) Taking someone else's life is no joke and is not something easily overcome after the fact

2) Defending a murder charge with a claim of self defense can potentially ruin your life, even if you were correct in doing so. Whether it's having to defend criminal and civil actions, or defending yourself in the court of public opinion, shit ain't easy.

Some areas of the US you can still do this. Usually rural areas with country minded people. As you get closer to the metropolitan areas you see this less and less. One thing to consider is the country minded people will give you the shirt off of their back if you are in truly need. But if they catch you sneaking around in their house at 2:00 AM they will not hesitate to put a bullet in your ass.

I don't see the problem. Far easier to get multiple shots on target than a handgun round especially in a stressful situation....and I don't share any walls.
