Hey im new to the forum been trying to figure out how to navigate it but im having a hard time. So maybe can direct me to a thread that has the answer for this. On my car currently i have the Roush axle backs and roush x pipe.
My next move is Texas Speed Headers, but my ONLY issue is the cold starts i live in an apartment complex and im more than sure its going to be too loud. I was wondering if anyone knew of an exhaust valve i could use to muffle it a little i would only need it on for the 1 or 2 minutes before i leave the parking lot. My car is a base model so active exhaust wasnt an option. so please and thank you!

Going to be? It already is too loud in your neighbors opinion, Haha. Go for it, they will hate you the same ;)

I have no knowledge of an aftermarket valve, sorry.

Vibrant resonators. A few of the guys in the engine/exhaust forum have them and said it chills the exhaust out a bit.

Me? Give me all the loud noises. I told one guy that I wanted catless LTs, h-pipe and Atak’s And he said that’s going to be obnoxious. My response? I know. Lol

If you get headers, you're going to need a tune regardless and the tuner can tune out the obnoxious cold start. I start my car in the garage and wait about 10 seconds before opening it because it doesn't take long to go down to a soft idle when backing out. Aside from the first loud noise when it starts, that's all it is.

If they complain, park in reverse next to their window the next day. Then the day after that go back to where you were and tell them you quieted it down for them. It's an apartment, people fart and piss off their neighbors, it's a way of life there.

The solution is don't worry about your neighbors. Mine don't worry about me when they are stomping around at all hours of the night in the apartment above mine, so I don't worry about them when I fire my car up in my enclosed garage right underneath them.

Don’t need a tune for any type headers.

You're wasting a lot of money for noise then. Not to mention you're also likely to throw a P0420/P430 code for catalyst efficiency. Just do it right from the start.

Some tuners won’t turn off for legal reasons. O2 placement isn’t as important anymore. Stock ecu has a lot of learning logic. The temp relay on older cars would throw codes.
Bung extenders stops the code for real cheap.

Maybe I’m missing something. Do you think you can run more timing or leaner because of being catless? bring in more air? Isnt it just a mechanical efficiency advantage? The tuning in regards to power doesn’t change.

No, you simply improve efficiency with scavenging. The stock computer isn't capable of fully adjusting to a bigger intake of air to exhaust it faster. That's why you see pretty big gains with superchargers that have long tube headers. Headers by themselves with O2 spacers to avoid the check engine light won't yield much horsepower without being tuned.

I’m not trying to be confrontational.. I’m still not following. Are you saying something in the tune (besides emission stuff) can be changed because you add headers?

I don’t think there’s any changes made in relation to power from a pbd or Lund e85 tune with or without headers. Just as an example. No retune is needed.

Add catless headers and leave COT on. Your performance will suffer. There is also this thing called Transport Delay that typically could use some massaging with certain headers.
