So I've been happy with my FRPP Sport exhaust and under normal operation it doesn't seem loud at all. However, the morning cold starts can be brutal.

My question is scientifically, is it louder to start the car with the exhaust facing out or backed in with the exhaust facing the inside of the house? Is there even a noticeable difference? My neighborhood has garages in the front so I'm looking at the best setup as to not disturb my neighbors.

If you want to spare yourself, your passengers and the people in the house make sure the rear of the car faces outwards towards the door.

If you want to spare your neighbors, back it in.

I'm sure there's a more scientific reason for that, but in simple terms the closer you are to the exhaust and the less obstructions between yourself and the exhaust, the louder is sounds. By backing it in will make it further from your neighbors and the noise pulses will hit a bunch of stuff first before getting to them, so it will tone them down somewhat over if your exhaust faces outwards and the sound pulses are unobstructed.

If you get a tune, your tuner can limit the cold start spark retard. It's very effective. You get about 1.5-2 seconds of loud bark and then it settles down to nearly warm idle volume.

What I do when it's early or late, is fire it up with the door closed and then open it right after it fires. The first few seconds are the loudest.
