I noticed after detailing my car the other day there were some water spots all over the paint that I only could see at certain angles in really bright light. These spots cannot be wiped away, and I have even tried Meguiars swirl remover hoping it could remove them. Are these "etched" into my paint? Anyone have any experience removing this type of stuff from ford paint? I will try to get some pictures posted shortly of the spots.

Now you know why I will never get a black car again.

PS. Stove Cooktop cleaner works great getting rid of water spots on glass.

Happened to my new black GT. I live in Atlanta and took a road trip to the coast less than a week after I brought her home. It rained a few days that week and left terrible salty spots all over the pain. I tried a regular 2 bucket method was when I got back home and it didn't work. What did the trick was clay barring the crap out of the car. It took quite a bit of elbow grease to get the paint looking new again. Set aside a few hours to clay, wash, and wax your car and it should look a million times better.

Black paint takes extra work to maintain but when it looks good, it looks really good.

White vinegar and water mixture. Works like a charm. Make sure you re-apply wax after.

Wizard's Finish Cut (fine) Compound. It's a rubbing compound. They have 3 (I think) grades, the heavy is Wizard's Turbo Cut for example. Even though they say rubbing compound is safe for paint, I only use it as needed. Mostly for neglected paint. It will remove oxidized paint.

The most important thing is identifying the source and avoiding it in the future. Most of the time it is the water at your house. Hard water will leave those spots no matter how careful you are, even drying it very fast. I can't wash my car at home. I have to take it to a car wash every time. As often as I go, I could buy a water softener and should.

Yeah I think the spots came from washing my car at my apartment complex. The only place I can wash it there is in the sun, so that is probably the problem. I am going to only take it to the car wash going forward, or wait for a cloudy day.

But two people have recommended that 3d eraser stuff so far, so I think I'm going to order since it's so cheap.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

Had the same happen to me. Only visible in angled lighting.

Adam's Revive + Rupes mini + Adam's white foam pad @6000rpm followed by a spray seal did the trick!

I live in FL and had a bird crap on my black C7 when I was inside for work. Got it off when I got home but it left a noticeable mark in the paint, drove me nuts. The sun pretty much cooked it all day while I was working. I love black cars but I got my GT in CO.

No reason to use anything that is going to cut (ie rubbing compounds). The vinegar solution will get rid of the spots. Once you got it clean and waxed well, a spray detailer will keep it clean after. If you havent yet, definitely clay bar it first.

Menzerna 3500 followed by menzerna powerlock. Use powerlock every 3 months. Any cleaner wax should be effective.
