Friend of mine plasti-dipped his black plastic on his Honda Element. When he peeled it off a year later it severely discolored the plastic. Not sure what color it discolored it to, but that's what he told me.
Friend of mine has the same set up and I agree it's too loud as a daily driver. I suggest one of two options.

Why is it backing off? I've literally done thousands of oil changes as a mechanic and have never seen this. Sounds like it's just not torq'd or lubed properly from the factory.
I have an idea (don't laugh)...if early morning cold starts annoying the neighbors are your only problem. How about a couple flexible hoses running into a cheapo muffler, then after a minute when the revs come down, disconnect and go.
The VW GTI blow-off valve sounds good compared to this air noise. Can you put some kind of an adapter on it to make the noise more pleasing? Something like a growl like the GTI blow-off valve has.
