My area averages about a dollar a gallon more.
I haven't bought any recently, but it's the better part of a dollar more per gallon here too.

It's always a little astonishing when I fill up a couple of 5-gallon cans, considering most of it will be burned up by yard equipment.

Rain makes corn and corn makes whiskey.

There are some benefits (octane booster) and some drawbacks (growing corn produces more pollution). All that could be debated.

My biggest issue with ethanol mandated gas is the loss of MPG and the loss of energy. It takes more energy to produce E10 than we get from it, and now they are trying to force E15.

It is simply welfare for farmers.

Many times those farmers are giants like ADM, etc.

Ethanol is an oxygenate. In densely populated cities the logic behind adding ethanol is to further help reduce carbon monoxide emissions.
I get it about the corn growers lobby. My personal concern is the massive amount of ground water used to produce ethanol.

Emphasis on massive.

We've got ethanol plants all over in the southern half of the state....

Do you mean because of market forces with all gas being ethanol free? Even if ethanol was free, the mandated addition of it shouldn't change the wholesale price by more than the percent of ethanol in it. So, cheaper because stations don't have to have extra pumps, etc for the pure stuff? Or because there are penalties for selling non ethanol gas?

I'm intrigued the OP says the Rec90 isn't much more than the other gas.
93 was 3.85 and rec90 was 4.27

Is there any benefit in a vehicle to use rec90 other than the lack of water? It’s not crazy expensive compared to 93 and the station is a few blocks away. I could run this stuff all year if I wanted.

If you track your car, slightly hotter oil operating temps. Around town I bet you'd never notice a temp difference. It's the reason I try to run ethanol blends rather than non-ethanol in my car.

Check with the station on how often the bulk storage tank is refilled with the Rec90. Better to have fresh fuel vs. fuel sitting in an underground storage tank for months on end.

Here on the "left coast" we have a few pretty decent sources for 93 "clear premium" as they call it. Usually around .75 more than the standard oxygenated stuff. There a couple fleet stations around me that sell clear 87 which is what I run in all of my yard equipment. I've never had any issues with any of my gas powered tools starting right up after being stored for a long winter.

The 93 clear premium is pretty awesome on the race track too!

My concern is the loss of soil health from repeated planting of unnecessary crops. It will come home to roost at a most inconvenient time I'm sure...
