Started using a local Chevron because Sunoco closed and I’m a gas snob. Probably been there a dozen times and didn’t pay attention to the extra pump on the island.

Turns out it’s Rec90. Ethanol free gas. I have never seen this for sale. Never heard of anyone using it or tuning for it. Apparently it’s hot stuff, high grade fuel. Not much more expensive than the 93.

Anyone ever use this stuff? Is it comparable to 101 or 99? Waste of money? I think people use it for boating, I am near a port and have huge rec fishing population. Only reason I can think of that the station sells it.

If you run it in your car you will get a MPG boost. Mine gets 20% increase on straight gas.

Otherwise known as non-oxygenated in my neck of the woods.

Best stuff on the planet for anything that has a carburetor and/or sits for any length of time. I use it in all my yard equipment, motorcycles, and old cars.

I can confirm everything that's been discussed so far. Rec 90 is 90 octane, ethanol-free gasoline. In other words pure dino-juice with no corn squeezins. I always fill up with that for winter storage. It's typically very expensive.

It wouldn't be if we got rid of the corn mandates.
Do you mean because of market forces with all gas being ethanol free? Even if ethanol was free, the mandated addition of it shouldn't change the wholesale price by more than the percent of ethanol in it. So, cheaper because stations don't have to have extra pumps, etc for the pure stuff? Or because there are penalties for selling non ethanol gas?

I'm intrigued the OP says the Rec90 isn't much more than the other gas.

My biggest issue with ethanol mandated gas is the loss of MPG and the loss of energy. It takes more energy to produce E10 than we get from it, and now they are trying to force E15.

It is simply welfare for farmers.

Same here. I store my car on that and as soon as I can switch back to E85

I have a station near me that sells 91 octane 0E. It is usually anywhere from $0.05 to $0.15 more per gallon than 91 octane 10E. If Costco wasn’t so much cheaper around here than the other stations (usually about $0.20 cheaper for 87 octane 10E and $0.30-$0.40 cheaper for 91 octane 10E), I’d run it in my Mustang and Ram truck too. I will only use 0E in my mowers, 4 wheelers, boat, and other small yard equipment. Like said above, ethanol attracts moisture and is very corrosive on small engines not necessarily designed for it.
