I'm really curious about this.

Based on my research, the price of the premium package is about $4,000 USD.

Ecoboost @ $25,300 USD
Ecoboost Premium @ $29,300 USD
GT @ $32,300 USD
GT Premium @ $36,300 USD

The base and premium versions for all these models are almost identical in terms of "bells and whistles".

The V6 base price is $23,800 USD.

So the hypothetical V6 Premium price would be $27,800 USD.

The question is, if the V6 Premium was offered, how many of you would buy the Ecoboost (Premium or not)? If so, why?

Ecoboost. I kinda like 310 horses averaging 26 mpg.

No, I think once you've owned or even driven the 5.0 in 2011+ Mustangs, then anything else will leave you with regrets.
The other two engines are fine motors and nothing wrong with owning either but my experience is that I would rather have a base GT even the old body style, just for that motor. I had a Ecoboost on order and now I'm in limbo. I don't want to have buyers remorse.

V6. I prefer the sound and the fact that it is a proven engine. Something about having a 4 cylinder under 20psi of boost worries me at high milage. I am happy with my 26-27mpg and "300hp".

Of course. GT is its own separate beast, and Ford never cut back on Premium options for GT to promote Ecoboost. So this poll is more for people who are in the V6/Ecoboost area.

Some of us may not be able to afford the flat cost of a V8 + ownership cost. Some of us may want less of a flaming behemoth for our daily usage. :)

Yes because upgrades are soooo easy. High 12 second ETs are only a tune away.
What substantial mods are available for the V6?

No resentment, just conversation.
Nobody said the others opinion was wrong, just different. Different is good. We may not agree, but we can always learn.

I think it depends on what you plan to do with the car.

As a high mileage daily driver, having driven both the Eco and the V6, I liked the sound of the V6 and that it pulled until redline. The torque difference of the Eco was noticeable at street safe speeds, as was a small amount of additional lag.

However, the Eco can be easily and cheaply tuned to massively increase torque and add a little HP. The V6, not so much.

Since I don't mind tuning the car, the Eco is a better performance bargain but if I wasn't planning on doing so, the V6 is a more economical choice (87 octane, similar real-world MPG) with a slightly lower price and better sounding exhaust - also with potentially lower maintenance costs for a high mileage vehicle.

So my thoughts are:

Tune = Eco
Stock = V6

Given my druthers, I'd buy a turbo V6 with an 8+ speed DCT, but you have to run what's available.

Eh, not really. It all depends on how you drive it. I went directly from a 3.7 litre to the 5.0, and I don't really see that huge of a difference, to be honest. You can only lace into the GT for a second or two before you're at I'm-about-to-get-arrested speeds; in regular day-to-day driving, there's not that much difference.

The biggest difference I've noticed between the V6 and the GT is that I used to occasionally have to run the V6 up to 4,000 rpm or so to pass on the highway; I haven't yet run into a situation in the GT where 2,500 wasn't enough power.

Model comparison will never end, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think they're both fantastic values that appeal to different audiences. Reliability and sound vs mod potential and mpg's.

Personally, I prefer the V6 -- premium or not.

Ecoboost all the way. Even before I knew there wouldn't be a V6 premium, I wanted an EB over both a 6 and GT, because of inexpensive potential.

The V6 is probably gone after next year, I agree on why all of these threads are coming up haha. I would go with the Eco based on that alone, the V6 may sound better but the Eco will make more power easier, have a huge aftermarket, etc... I love my 3.7 but I would have no problem trading it in for an Eco if there was no GT.

Ecoboost- For a couple hundred I can increase hp by 56 and torq by 87 with a tune. You can't say that about the naturally aspirated counterparts. Huge advantage!

So maybe I stand corrected. The poll is still young, but I didn't expect many "Yes" answers. Wasn't trying to cause resentment or say which model is better.

I'm curious if my theory that the reason Ford doesn't offer Premium options on the V6 is purely because if they did, Ecoboost wouldn't sell. That's all. :)

I'm pretty sure deep down, we all just love Mustangs. Be it V6, Ecoboost, or GT. Growl away!
