I don't understand the question....
Russia today is far more classic American ideals than America, at least as manifest by Washington DC and many a blue area. Incredible really.

But I wish we didn't have to go full on communist before we learn from the experience of the millions who died in the previous struggles to overthrow totalitarian govts.

We forget the past, then are doomed to repeat it.

COBB agreed to three payments. Interestingly COBB has an annual revenue of 18 million.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/unit...cobb-tuning-products-clean-air-act-violations

COBB got off easy, no jail time.

We can all thank VW for this. You all remember that don’t you ? An OEM with dual ECU tunes;
One EPA compliant tune.
One Al Capone tune.

Don’t think for a minute there are not EPA moles embedded into the more popular forum groups watching.

If dieselgate happened during Bush or Trump, wouldn't have lead to Diesel being essentially outlawed, as again, Harley and Hyundai did the same thing and were slapped on the wrist instead of Crucified

Remember what they took from us:

LOL,
I get your message.
The Clean Air Act is the real devil in the details. Who really knows all the laws rolled into that bill?

What’s interesting about VW is they are now the worlds largest vehicle manufacturing company, now owning the former USA company Navistar.

Diesels are not outlawed at all, there wasn't even a "mole" in VW.

Its surprising how many people don't understand dieselgate. Mercedes were producing compliant diesels that used DEF. They had licensed the technology from AdBlue (BASF). The issue for VW was that they did not want to license the product. I had heard that the reason was that AdBlue required there to be the word "Blue" somewhere on the exterior of the car and VW didn't want to do that. In reality it was probably a cost issue.

So they decided they would make their own compliant diesels, they wouldn't use AdBlue, and wouldn't require any additional fluids at all. VW spent millions on R&D to design a system, but in their own laboratory testing they found that it wouldn't reliably control emissions at any power level that people drive at. It worked but only for very low power motors.

So instead of scrapping the project, admitting defeat and licensing AdBlue From BASF, they decided to flat out lie. Other comapnies were already making compliant cars, the problem was not impossible to solve. VW dug their own grave on this and they deserved everything they got from that whole debacle.

How was it even uncovered? West Virginia University were conducting research on vehicle emissions, they picked the VWs because they could afford them, they expected them to pass. The test was 2 VWs and a BMW This was not a deep investigation, nobody targeted VW. They found in their own testing that VW "CeanDiesel" cars would not meet emissions when driven on the road, but would meet emissions when on a CARB emissions test dyno. The failure was like 35x over the maximum allowable NOx emissions limit. The BMW passed, further cementing that this was a solved problem at this point.

Dieselgate happened because of poor engineering, and bad corporate decision making. They failed to fully mitigate the risk of developing such a complicated system in-house and paid the price. It is a classic example of an engineering ethics conundrum, and it wont soon be forgotten.

Heck even those who wrote the bills don't know all that's in them. Too many pages written by Too many people that don't talk to each other. Typical bureaucratic BS.

What did Harley do to get a slap on the wrist?

Never a dull day, huh?

I see your bet and raise you the waters of America bill. And whatever monsters lurk in the Inflation Turbo-Charge, er negative reduction act.
Remember, whatever the bills title is, it's the exact opposite

Diesels are not outlawed at all.

So why can't I buy a new TDI, or get a Diesel option for my Bronco?

Its surprising how many people don't understand dieselgate. Mercedes were producing compliant diesels that used DEF. They had licensed the technology from AdBlue (BASF). The issue for VW was that they did not want to license the product. I had heard that the reason was that AdBlue required there to be the word "Blue" somewhere on the exterior of the car and VW didn't want to do that. In reality it was probably a cost issue.

Why do we need the complicated systems? Reduced power/economy/reliability for what, tailpipe emissions? As long as it's not coal rolling, who's hurt?

So they decided they would make their own compliant diesels, they wouldn't use AdBlue, and wouldn't require any additional fluids at all. VW spent millions on R&D to design a system, but in their own laboratory testing they found that it wouldn't reliably control emissions at any power level that people drive at. It worked but only for very low power motors, so rather than admit defeat and License the AdBlue system

So instead of scrapping the project, admitting defeat and licensing AdBlue From BASF, they decided to flat out lie. Other comapnies were already making compliant cars, the problem was not impossible to solve. VW dug their own grave on this and they deserved everything they got from that whole debacle.

And who got hurt from that? Unlike a Tesla that spontaneously combusts, I know of no one who get hurt from diesels. They didn't deserve to be crucified, Mike, and they should have fought back rather than bow and submit.

Dieselgate happened because of poor engineering, and bad corporate decision making. They failed to fully mitigate the risk of developing such a complicated system in-house and paid the price.

I trust a dieselgate TDI more than I would ever an EV

Isn’t interesting though how that nearly bankrupt company that was looking for a buyer is now the largest vehicle manufacturer on the planet.

Its not that surprising, VW was not almost bankrupt because they didn't produce enough cars. They were almost bankrupt because they were litigated to hell by every country that cared enough to try them for lying to their emissions control boards.
