Tonight I filled up with 93 chevron techron it was 2 bucks more per gallon 5.69. Maybe its in my head but the car seems peppier than the 93 from Costco. at 3.67 per gallon. Anyone else notice a difference with pricier gas? They had 90 non ethanol at pump also for a bit cheaper at chevron and I was wondering if that would change things up also. Been running on Costco 93 for 2 years now. Car always seemed sluggish and quieter than it is now.

I’d be interested to know opinions as well. I’ve read good and bad about Costco gas.
I travel out of my way to get there 93 cheap

I don't have a good control. Because when I fill up with Sheetz 93 ($4.10) which is across the street from Costco where I buy my 93 ($3.70) most of the time, I also throw in 3.5 gallons of sweet sweet E85. The engine loves the higher E.

Costco I get 25 ,26 degrees of timing.

Shell I get 24, 25. Sunoco 25, 26

All 93.

If you have a way to log, log timing, if the gas is better it will show up as more timing.

You can, that's what I use. Log knock_spark and see what numbers you get at WOT (try and keep IAT and CHT consistent between runs).

I see about the same thing, costco gives me 1-2 degrees less than Chevron does in most cases. I suspect this has less to do with the quality of the gas itself and more to do with how much ad pack Costco uses (and it varies a bit station by station). But unless I'm really trying to notice the difference it's not super easy to tell.

Tend to use chevron in all my vehicles. Just under 5.20 for 91 octane, but if you shop at safeway i use rewards for -20c a gallon.

Costco is at 4.90 for 91 octane around here, so your Chevron is pretty damned expensive! My old FR-S with supercharger used to pull the least timing when using Shell.

Could be fuel fraud just like all the food fraud everywhere, or it's saturated with ethanol. I'd get a test kit and see. Could be a great class action!

I stopped putting Costco gas in all my vehicles. All my cars drove like crap with the fuel I use to get from the Willbrook location in Houston. My SUV's were sluggish, my cars would produce a check engine light at times. And my carb'ed Nissan 720 needed octane booster after a fill up.

Problems disappeared after filling up from any other big chain gas station.

Before everyone says all gas comes from the same place...

So does Coke syrup. But every restaurant, gas station, etc has their own fountains, mixes with their own water...that's why it never tastes the same.

According to the tanker drivers I've asked at various Shell, Costco, Mobile, Marathon, and Speedway stations around Metro Detroit, all the fuel originates from Detroit's Marathon Petroleum Refinery and it's the additive packages added at the time of delivery that distinguish the various brands. Turnover seems to be more of a concern for quality, you don't want fuel that been sitting in a stations's storage tank very long, especially e-85.

I have good luck with shell 93 over every other brand, at least on the East Coast. For consistency, I go to the same busy fuel station and same pump. Even the Sunoco 94. I don't go to the wholesale gas places because it doesn't run as well for me. I wont run Mobil anything, so that's out. I may start throwing a few ounces of octane booster to see if it makes any real difference.
