Indeed, and would definitely necessitate a compression and leak down test. Hard to imagine any other scenario than someone deliberately putting it in there, but I guess if someone were hastily removing the blower and other things to try and sell the car, it could have fallen in there and they didn't notice. Shitty either way really.
Wouldn't it have to be purposely removed as it is threaded and sealed on the unit? Does it have to be removed to take a hose off?

The bloke that owned this car before me had it for more than 5 years. I hope it was not repossessed after all that time, but who knows.

It less than 100 miles put on it after the guy probably traded it in and I ended up with it. It had about 2 gallons of fuel left in the tank when I got it. So either it was never refueled after the guy got rid of it, or the dealers knew it had an E85 tune and filled it with that and never passed along that information, or the problems I have been having have nothing to do with a potential E85 tune. And not one of the people that supposedly inspected the car along the way had any inkling of what was lurking about under the intake manifold. Or they did and ignored it. The MBRP catback that is on it is annoyingly loud so that doesn't help pick out extraneous noises/rattles.

My yellow 2016 GT lived its first year as a rental and it looked and ran like brand new when I bought it with about 25K on odometer so the fact that this red 2016 GT did the same did not overly concern me. A lot of times fleet vehicles are better maintained than ones that are privately owned. But definitely not always!

I will know for certain this week if it starts and runs well after installing the Lund 91 tune. My bet is that it is going to run fine with no problems with compression or cylinder scoring.

I knew I had a compression tester kicking around somewhere and I was able to find it. I have had it since high school for working on the mega-powerful 1973 Mustang I had then, with the wild 140 horsepower 302 in it. If I need to set the timing or check the fuel pump vacuum or dwell on my 2016, I'm all set. The hose for the compression tester is a bit dry-rotted so that won't help much.

I think it's time to invest in a new compression/leakdown tester. They seem to vary in price from $20 to well over $1,000! Two of our vehicles have over 135K miles on them, so they're getting to that age...

I am still semi-patiently waiting for part FR3Z-2420-J to arrive so I can (hopefully) finish connecting all the hacked tubes currently connected to nothing. It was supposed to arrive at my local Ford dealership Wednesday or yesterday but no joy so far.

In the meantime, I found a picture of the underside of my car on a Russian language car site of all places. It looks like it may have been taken when the car was being auctioned earlier this year.

I also picked up a replacement for my ancient compression tester. The Mityvac MV5530 should do the job on the Mustang and most/all the other combustion engines I have. Not sure about the old 2 stroke dirt bike but I think that is going to my nephew's kids anyway so it'll be their project to restore now.

Hot damn the FR3Z-2420-J hose setup came in this morning and I just picked it up. It looks like I now have a nice, neat connection for everything except for the nipple that comes off the vapor canister purge valve on the intake manifold. It probably just T-connects to one of the hoses I have. Hopefully I can get that sorted today, then it is Lund time time and hopefully a running Coyote!

before you do anything else or buy another part, put that compression tester on it and see if you have anything wrong on the bottom end. And, have you plugged a scanner into it for any stored codes? Have you drained the oil & inspected the oil filter since receiving the car? If not, check both for metal.

Also, look into something called implied warranties. Implied warranty is the selling dealer sells you a vehicle that runs and drives. The dealer failed to provide you that. If the buyer and seller knew of the mechanical issues than the implied warranty does not apply.

I know the dealer is in Florida and you are in WI, lawyers are expensive, and you may chalk this up to a life lesson, but you do have legal remedies available. A strongly worded letter from an attorney that CC's the appropriate authorities in Florida may help you out.

Either I did the compression test wrong with this Mityvac tester, or, much more likely, this engine is effed. I removed all the spark plugs, removed the fuel pump fuse, and tested each cylinder twice counting to 10 each test. The four cylinders that were 60-80 psi I tested three times.

Did you put oil in the low cylinders to check the rings?
The lowest should be within maybe 10% of the highest I think.
Those numbers are disheatening.

I am investigating any/all options.
Would be cool to see a nice build come from this, but the car should’ve never left the dealer that sold it in the condition it’s in. Good luck to whatever you decide, will be following to see what happens.

Put oil in the cylinders and test again.

I started really sharing details of my problems to various, highly visible sites making sure to only state things I can backup with emails and pictures. I am supposed to hear back from them sometime this evening. I am not going to be rude to them. It is in my best interest to see where it goes. I am very angry inside but just acting on that gets me nowhere. I learned that lesson more times than I can count, maybe even as many times as I quit smoking back in the day.

Time for an aluminator and a Hellion kit. But really, a dealership cannot sell you a car in this condition. Lawyer up
