I decided the wheels can wait. Rather, it's time to start collecting the parts needed to do the digital dash swap. I'll base my acquisition list over what's posted in the sticky for this mod. I'm in no hurry but I hope to at least be able to finish it by late fall. We'll see what life has in store for me before that.

Well, this is turning out to be a great July 4!

I don't think I've had a single time since I got this blessed car from "Mint" Auto Sales in Orlando, Florida that there has not been at least one temporary or permanent code stored. It's taken since October 2023 but it is now showing as error code free. The permanent P1450 code that had been there for ages has finally cleared itself. I think the final hurdle was replacing the entire evap canister assembly about 4 months ago and it's taken this long for all the various driving modes to get hit by me since I only drive it a few times a week.

Regardless, Oliver is CODE FREE! At least for now. I can't say what the next drive will bring, but I will be happy and grateful about this today.

I don't think me trying to use 87 octane helped when, unknown to me the day this heap arrived, it had a E85 tune installed. I'm sure the amount of raw fuel that got dumped through the emissions system wreaked havoc on it.

Oh yeah, a friend of mine is trying to sell me his friend's yellow 2011 (I think) Corvette Grand Sport. Looks like it's a very nice car. I've never driven any Corvette, but I've also never sat in a Vette that had enough head room for my 6' 2" long upper body. Even the 1987 5.0LX, 1995 GT and 2004 GTs I owned all needed the driver side sun visor removed so I could see out the top half of the windshield. It's nice that I don't have to do the same thing in the yellow 2016 GT I had or the red 2016 GT I have. At least I don't have this problem on the bike. :)

While I collect parts for the digital dash project, it's time to try to catch up on a few other lingering projects like the faulty Rostra Front Zome front parking sensors on the F150 and the fueling issue on the lawn tractor that causes it to stall out on sharp left turns only. No sign of any wiring issues, the carb has been taken apart and cleaned and new needle and gaskets are on the way. And I have new front brake calipers and rotors I still need to install on my wife's Kia, but my lower back is sore and it's too hot/humid out. And I can't work on the newly inoperable rear parking assist camera on my daughter's Fusion until Sunday at the earliest when the aftermarket camera is due to arrive (no high hopes it works worth a darn). Gee, too bad I can't cut the 1.5 acre yard now either.

Guess I'll have to just watch the Silverstone FP1 and FP2, then the golf.

Anyway, happy July 4th to all!

I figured today was as good a day as any to start the replacement of the AC compressor clutch, water pump, hoses, thermostat, etc. I got off to a decent start, getting the coolant drained without making a mess. Then came removing the stuff in the way to remove the AC compressor clutch and water pump. @#$@#, a very brittle plastic clip on one of the hoses connected to the air inlet tube snapped and those little bundles of joy are a peach to find to replace. This time it's the end circled in red. I suppose after nearly 10 years in a harsh environment like an engine compartment, a certain amount of material fatigue is to be expected. But they still suck trying to find/replace.

I'm researching an intermittent rough idle and came upon this thread. I just had the same problem with those silly vacuum tube retaining clips. Turns out you're supposed to push them in, which spreads them apart, and allows you to release the connector. I also had them temporarily secured with zip ties, meh.

You can get a kit from Amazon with a bunch of different clips, but the 3/8" is what you need:
