I really want to get this kit for my 2019 GT, but I haven't been able to find an auto shop that is either willing to install it (several places declined to do the job because they "don't do performance parts") or want to charge an excessive installation price (my local dealership quoted $750).

I can easily do this job myself. Would I be crazy for installing this myself due to warranty issues? Or am I just overthinking it?

As a note, I realize that part of the appeal of this particular kit is the ability to have FP cover the warranty and that there are other intake/tune options, but I still want to go with this kit. I like the ability to put it back to stock configuration and the fit and finish of it. Also, I do have a third party warranty, but I don't recall if it would cover anything if it was modified.

Do it yourself. If a dealer ask you for installer paper work, say you lost it. Or you can de-install before taking it in. He might not even ask.

I had cats replaced twice on my 13 mustang through warranty, first with frpp tune, then with frpp supercharger and he new I installed.

Similar to the above, has anyone ever installed a FP power pack, had a warranty issue, and was asked to provide a receipt for install by an Certified mechanic? I’m just trying to judge how much of an potential issue it really is...I imagine they see FP parts and don’t really ask lots of questions. But I could be 100% off here.

I hate the thought of paying for such a simple install, for no reason.

The biggest benefit of this kit is the warranty which requires the certified installer. If doing the self install which wouldn't get that benefit may as well go a different route and get more power for less. If available, tuning for e/flex will net you double the power without any additional hardware, will run cooler and won't suffer higher iats from the open intake like the FP. And would cost significantly less. Just a thought.

Perhaps you can find a qualified tech that will sign off on the install for a small fee... That is my plan.

Ah yup you are correct. Warranty plus CARB my bad. That said should be certified installer if these are important to the end user. If not then my statement above would apply.

You have to submit VIN to FRPP as part of the tuning process. I would assume that would show in the system when making a warranty claim. YMMV

I installed myelf. I didnt get it installed by certified mechanic. It has been on since June and haven't had any problems, plus I havent read anyone having problems with the kit on the forum. It's pretty simple. I guess if you want piece of mind then yes pay for the install. For me, it wasnt about the cost of install it was more that I wanted to do the project myself.

Everyone hung up on warranty - remember it's three years from date of car purchase, not kit installation. So someone with 2018 doesn't have much of it left.

Agreed, mine is just 5 mos. old though. Had it since August. Also CARB approval is biggy for Cali.

This is another reason why I'd like to do it myself. For the mods I feel confident in doing myself (like this one), I'd like to actually do them without negative repercussions.

I'm a retired tech, and I wanted the warranty. All my certifications had expired and they would not accept that for the warranty so I went and took the tests and recertified. So now I'm covered did it myself and kept warranty. Just got the car in April so a lot of warranty left.

Looks like you may have the ability to make some money on the side certifying kits lol
