Took delivery of my brand new 2020 R on Tuesday (built 6/2/20) and in the dealership parking lot I realized the lockout wasn't working. Did it again at home backing out of my garage and then going for 1st. I thought I was going crazy until I saw this thread. I will keep an eye on it. Weird.

I didn't even get mine off the showroom floor and the lock out was broke! Took them almost 3 months to get the parts. So got sick of waited and asked if they would install the short throw from ford perfomance instead, which they refused to do. Ended up installing myself and not really impressed by it. Ordered mgw last week and patiently waiting for it to give it a try! It's on backorder for another 2 weeks
Lol. Covid does strange things. It’s worth the wait. You’ll be happy.

Sorry to hear your luck is kinda like mine, none! I had the same feeling, glad that the backup camera comes up fast, it did save me a few times before I got it fixed

Yes, thank goodness for that backup camera because that is one of the ways I realized it was sliding into reverse instead of first.

Mine stopped working about a month ago at 700 mi, very hard to find 1st. lol Dealer ordered parts [ haven't heard back from them yet ].
But kept driving it, after about a week or so it started working again, doing just fine now, go figure.

This is really strange, the recall is known for a while now. Should of been with the fix from factory already.

Should I assume my new old stock ‘19 I bought on Fathers Day already had the recall taken care of?
I’ll call the dealership.

If you have Ford Pass set up it will tell you if the FSA is outstanding. You can also look on Ford.com/MyProfile with your vehicle details (VIN).

Just for clarification - it is not a recall but a technical bulletin (Field Service Action). Recalls are mandated by the Fed (NHTSA). An FSA is a manufacturer program to correct an issue before it is mandated by the Fed.

I spent a few minutes messing around with the shifter with the car off. It seems pretty simple - the reverse lockout ring doesn't go down very positively when you take the car out of reverse. Like the spring isn't the right one. So for now I just need to manually push it down when taking the car out of reverse. I see an MGW in my future (have one in my Boss 302 and like it a lot).

I got a $250 gift card coming from my health insurance for being in tip top shape this year after doing my yearly physical.

Im debating on getting the MGW and using the gift card to cover some of the cost.

truth be told, I would be doing the install myself using my QuickJacks and Im a little intimidated by it.

Alain - I haven't done an MGW on a 350 but I did mine on my Boss 302 in my driveway with just a floor jack and a couple of jack stands and it wasn't too terrible. With Quickjacks, I suspect it will be a snap for you.

BTW my stock reverse lockout isn't acting up as much now that the car has over 400 miles on it. I have an MGW incoming but if the shifter continues to improve, I'm not sure I will bother installing it because I am very pleased with the shift action overall.

I did the install on my GT & it's relatively easy. Just take your time. My MGW for the 350 is sitting in the garage waiting for my 1K oil change. Gonna be a busy day!

thank you for the Confidence inspiring comment. My car hasn’t given me any signs of trouble yet and just like you, I am very pleased with the feel of the OEM shifter.
Im having a hard time imagining how much better it can get with the MGW.

Yeah I agree, Alain - but for the lockout not locking out sometimes, I feel that it is perfect.

As for the MGW install, let me be clear: I am not one of those guys who says "oh yeah I did that with one hand, in the dark, and just a jack and it only took 15 minutes" guys. The Boss MGW install took several hours and there were a couple of times when I wanted to set the car on fire (putting the heavy rubber 'underboot' on correctly especially) but I got it done and it was worth it. I like projects and am glad I did it myself even if a shop probably could have done it in an hour.
