Just bought 19 350 after years of drooling, as a 50 year worshipper of Shelby and owning 8 Mustangs including two 66 tribute cars and two 08 GT 500’s which were death traps. Own the car 3 days and 8 get a shifter recall. My local dealer says we have not done one yet but we will figure it out. REALLY !! What do you guys think?
I saw the replacement instructions on line
I want my console taken apart?
Would you guys allow a shop that has never done anything like this to do the work.
Guess I really don’t ha e a choice.
This car is my baby as your car is.

DONT take it to that dealership. Either find a different dealership near you that’s more experienced or wait to have it done so that Inexperienced dealership learns on someone else’s car.

The letter I got in the mail says you have till 2023 to get it done.

If you want to travel down to RisingSun MD they can help you out. Waiting on my part to come in. They have done 2 of them so far. I talked to the tech and service mgr about it on Monday.

They haven't done that on the GT350 but they had done similar work thousand times. Taking console apart is not a rocket science. You can do it yourself with some basic skills and trim tools.

I’m not doing it if it’s not broken. I saw instructions and it’s frisking me out that some kid will do that work on my car.

You are not required to have it done by any particular dealership. Call around the dealerships in your area and ask a Master Certified tech and specifically one with Shelby experience. My replacement shifter was due to arrive today, and I will schedule the replacement be done when I can be booked with the Master Tech the dealership has identified to work on Shelbys. FWIW, when I purchased the Shelby I asked the dealer if they had a tech with Shelby experience. They introduced him to me, along with the shop foreman and even showed me their certification credentials.

Thanks Alain, I think you are 100 percent on target. I cringe at the thought of those guys dismantling my baby with 250 miles on it.
I will wait. You mentioned you got a notice also.
You have a 19 ?

Well... if I can take my own console apart (self-installed MGW shifter), I think a Ford tech won't have any problems. All mustang consoles are similar.

That said, if you have a reason to distrust your dealer - the above advice is good. Find a tech that has worked on GT350s before, and then TALK to him about what you want done. If you feel good about the tech's capabilities, go for it!

Thanks for the note. I cancelled for Monday. I will talk to them. As I said car has 250 miles on it as I just got it. Head of service said they had never replaced a shifter before but would “figure it out “.
Is it worth me to install an after market shifter.
Much better feel, throw etc ??
