I may be way off on this but my dealer was not able to do the shifter recall, because they were "short a part". He said something like "we have all the parts but one, and that is back ordered", so that gave me the impression that perhaps they are just re-doing some things in the original shifter, BUT I do not know

Also, I wasn't aware that Ford Performance sold a shorter rod (or whatever it is) for the GT350. I wonder how that would be for street driving? I wonder if the dealer would be willing to toss one in at a reduced price if they are doing shifter work anyways.

Anyone out there try this Ford mod part for GT350? Only one review I found but it said pain in the #ss to install, but was great
I had the Ford performance short throw kit on my 2016 last year. Too much vibration and rattle. I couldn't stand it. Took it off and returned to stock after.500 miles. Dealership did the install and return to stock. The dealership has been handling my Mustangs and Shelbys since the 90's.

Original shifter was fine and no issues for me.
Replacement shifter has been fine and no issues for me.
My dealer did a great job with the replacement, explained the work, introduced the tech and the car was spotless when finished.

Just want to balance the dialog here.

Mine just broke the other day, after 700 mi. Went to local dealer and they ordered the parts.

Like so many more on here I hate to take it to them, but you have to, or buy one yourself.
I think I'll remove the console before I take it in and leave it at home, so they don't break it.
I'll stay with it until they finish it, they may want to test drive it, if so I want to go also.

I don’t think it’s a balancing issue... rather more of an intended use issue.

If you plan to get the most out of the car it deserves a shifter that will support that, which is what @Epiphany was eluding to. The stock shifter is beneath the performance of the car.

If you just want a Shelby to putz around town and visit the local DQ car show then the stock shifter is probably good enough for you.

One thing is for sure... MGW shifters are not built and installed just for looks, which they do well in that area as well, but rather installed because some guys want the best. Mediocre is just not their settling point.

I like to disassemble things.
The GT350 deserved a much better shifter than what Ford decided upon. Period.

Everyone is entitled to enhance their vehicle as they please. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the caliber of a component chosen by a manufacturer. My point was simply to say NOT ALL have had a problem with the shifter. NOT ALL had an issue with the replacement. NOT ALL had a poor dealership experience. And NOT ALL of us are less worthy owners who just 'putz around town to the DQ'.

The tone these posts take:

1. You are screwed with the factory shifter
2. The replacement does not make you worthy of being a Shelby owner if you do not choose 'X' replacement.
3. If you dare to follow the service advisory, your car will be ruined by the process.

I am simply making a point that these are not absolute (balance) and the will of the internet should not dictate how an owner manages their car.

Don’t taze me bro... chillax.

No one here is impugning anyone for their belief system. Options have been submitted... opinions have been rendered. Isn’t that what these forums are for?

Honestly, I’ve had the experience of having owned both the stock shifter and an MGW in a 350R, and I can tell you it’s night and day. It was $450+ well spent for me... but to each his own.

Follow up to the post I had yesterday and how picking the right dealer is critical.

I contacted my local dealer that completed the recall to ask her to order a new X Pipe to limit my visits. I sent her a picture of the hole in the weld and asked that when the part was installed that the Tech could check all the touch points done under the recall to see what could be causing the vibration I have a low RPM's. I don't see how a small hole in the X Pipe could cause the vibrations I'm feeling. She said she would get back to me, that was before noon yesterday. I called twice today leaving a voice mail followed by speaking to another rep who stated she'll call you back shortly. It's now past closing time and I feel that they don't want to deal with a problem they caused. I'm sure the X Pipe wasn't ordered.

Does anyone have any feedback on where to go from here? Do I contact Ford corporate or do I search for another dealer and hope they will work with me on fixing another dealers mess?

Frustrated in Central New Jersey!

P.S. Please PM me if you know of any central Jersey Ford service centers you have good experience with.

Good luck getting different dealer to fix another dealers mess. My rear bumper had a gap, that I bought from an out of state dealer..... and so I took to a local Ford dealer here. They took off the rear bumper cover and saw where it apparently had been removed once before, and some clip was added or modified. So they say there is no way that they will fix it, and furthermore will make a note to the fact, so that Ford will not cover under warranty. Mind you, the car had 11 miles on it at that time.

The funny thing is, when they put it back, while they made no actual "repair" it looked much better then when I took it in, and I'm now satisfied with it

Did you decide to go with your local dealer? Have they done any prior to yours?
Yes. Went to local dealer to replace shifter. Made sure their lead mechanic was there to do job. All went well. Regarding differences between old and “new”, very subtle at best. A bit more feel, but I agree with past comments, still to soft/rubbery. it all works. I also cannot afford the switch an third party vendor so will live. Love the car. Ran from the law last night. Felt like I was 18. That about 45 years ago. Yeeeeehaaaaas

Haven’t done the recall yet, as the dealer said they are waiting on parts. What I have been debating is using the MGW shifter- Drum Reaper, appreciate the insight. I may go that route if I gave the center console opened up. No complaints on the stock shifter, just turned 2,900 miles on the car, but may look more seriously into the MGW.

I had the shifter recall just completed. Seems about the same so far. This is if they did a damm thing..... I guess my trust level with my certain dealer isn't as high as it could be. But that said, in reality I am sure they did it and there is no drastic change

Most likely... it’s the same setup and nothing really changed so the expectations that a drastic difference should be noted should be low.

MGW shifter is totally revamped. It is nothing like the stock and is like putting a bolt action rifle through a cycle. You’ll immediately notice a difference.

MGW is not on back order...
I didn't even get mine off the showroom floor and the lock out was broke! Took them almost 3 months to get the parts. So got sick of waited and asked if they would install the short throw from ford perfomance instead, which they refused to do. Ended up installing myself and not really impressed by it. Ordered mgw last week and patiently waiting for it to give it a try! It's on backorder for another 2 weeks
