Just gut an S550 and stick an original antiquated Boss 429 in it.

Crap as I read it wrong...

The problem is that the body would have to be good and then if it is good the swap is sacrilege. So what if it’s a V6 Model pimped up to Boss 429 (and sold to suckers back in the day) let’s say. Still sucks...

Make out of the above what you want - my mind wanders... But I have to say a 7.3 in a vintage V6 could sort of work if it was a bastardized V8 fake. But if it runs good as a fake?

The whole thing is a bad idea.

Because they aren't stupid.
Supposedly the new performance variant of the EcoBoost Mustang was from people working their own time after work and Ford liked what they did and decided to make a model based on it so not completely unusual.

Can’t that transmission hold a gear?

If it’s set up for towing it has to be able to hold a gear?
They can program it to do whatever they want. However, they won’t program it the way you think it should be. They want either max acceleration (wot) or max fuel economy (all other times). Max acceleration involves maximizing average power, which means 4000+ rpm. I’ve explained this numerous times in this thread.

You mean some of the engineers have curiosity and initiative? And then drive their creations around town with security wrap around it working out the bugs and then sell the idea to management as they have a working example already made? You mean that could happen and has happened in the past?

Never for the 7.3! All those aging engineers were fending off questions from the public, friends and family about a big block swap?

Would never enter their minds... :giggle:

They hype up the 'engineers in a garage' aspect of that. The program got budget to go do some development work to try and make the changes earn their way on. They obviously did.

Even if it did happen like you were saying, that is taking an existing engine that quite literally would drop right in the S550, has the same harness connections and pin-outs, and could easily run on the existing 2.3L calibration.

Ah, so now the people of Ford are so inept they can’t put the 7.3 in the Mustang anymore than I could. Only Mike could do it and he has all these equations and graphs with no info on the engine to show it can’t happen. I was once at a place that had a 7 litre Ford Mustang Racing motor just sitting an a skid gathering dust (I could have written “dust me” on that motor with my finger if I wanted to). I’m sure the boss wouldn’t mind making some use for it if it didn’t impact ongoing work. It’s like that at some engineering places.

But what do I know, I’m thick that way...

Yes it can hold gears in Tow/haul mode that will surely be in the truck's options if equipped with the 7.3.

You should do yourself a favor and go drive some vehicles with the A10. While it is a great transmission I do feel it will rob you of that feeling you want. Part of the reason it has so many gears is so that it can quickly jump to the right one to keep the engine in it's optimum range. Even in a situation where you say flip it to sport mode and hammer it, it will still jump around gears to get in the power band right away which is why I think the A10 will not give you that big block feeling you desire.

What he said ^

Fatguy wants the feel of a 60s big block in his car but modern. The problem is the transmission is to modern that it's just going to drive like a regular V-8

No they're just not stupid enough to do it because it makes no sense with the 7.3L as-designed. There's no special project to make a more racy/performance-focused variant of the 7.3L. It will not go in the damn Mustang (and it doesn't fit). You're missing your entire left brain, aren't you?

Fatguy, I don't quite understand why you like to troll so much.

You were on an EV binge for the last couple months and then switched over to the 7.3L when it was announced. What's next? Maybe you aren't just a troll...maybe you troll because you are bored. I don't know!

How are there 94 pages of posts in under 2 months? If you all think this is nonsense then why keep posting and keeping the thread alive?

And then there is traction control...

When I got serious about getting one I found out Tesla EV life is a good place to visit but you would not want to live there...

That was torque down low 1#

This is torque down low 2#

But I am entirely consistent with the torque down low. By the way there are like five trolls in this thread...

"cast iron block, a pushrod design, and port injection." Fatguy, If you wanna add weight, & have less RPM and kill the overall balance of the Mustang, go ahead and drop in the 7.3L.
