I know I've said it before, I'm all for Ford trying just about anything, but I really don't see it happen. They seem dead set on the 100mm bore spacing, and they have hogged out the block as much as they can with the 5.2. All they have left is to add some length to the deck and stroke it (If there is enough room for the throw, and if their tooling can fit the taller block). It would be hard on the rods and piston pin, because of the worsening geometry, but if they shaved some weight off the piston, they could mitigate that.

I believe that Ford wants to become more global though, and I believe that other countries tax by the displacement of the engine, so making a bigger, more expensive-to-tax engine, is probably not in their best interest.

I could see Ford making a few 7.3's just for shows like SEMA, but I doubt they would ever bring it to production.

This just in....I’m pretty sure the 2020 Buick Enclave is going to have the new ford gas 7.3 v8 I’ve attached spy photos to prove it.

My cousin heard it and said it either sounded like a big honkin v8 or a turbo 4. He couldn’t nail it down.

I just drove some family to Easter Dinner in my Dad’s Buick Enclave. Yup, 7.3 power in the Enclave cruising down street at 1,200 rpm. But able to lay down a mean patch to show those young whipper snappers we can still get it up - engineermike is probably in his 20s like Jake, but someday you guys will understand. We all get old...

Oh, it has the same firing order as the Coyote so they all sound like a hoarse turbo 4. The old Windsor motors - Ahhh... That firing order - that sound...

It's not happening. Hard stop. For certain.

It’s a prototype for heavens sake!

And it looks like an aftermarket manufacturer. But even if it is Ford - They are allowed to tinker with platform combinations so why not throw the new 7.3 engine in there with some modifications and see how it handles. That doesn’t mean big time production. It could be a niche retro thing. They could even licence the bastard to another manufacturer like the FORD GT and stay absolutely true to everything they said at the press launch.

Don’t worry I’m still interested in the Vette. Bad valves and all.

But after all the hoopla about the 7.3 and Mustang at the press launch, Ford would be foolish not to throw in a 7.3 into a Mustang test mule - if only to put the idea to bed...

And who’s to say a couple of engineers there worked on the thing after hours just for the hell of it. Could happen - so what?

Because they aren't stupid.

Dude,

If there is one thing I learned in life, it is never to underestimate the power of stupidity. And if it hits - you’re a genius!

He didn’t say stupid isn’t useful. We all need entertainment. He is saying the engineers aren’t building this because they aren’t stupid. Subtle, but significant, difference.

I looked into the LS6 valve issue and although you have to pull the head, there are solutions out there. I think most guys were replacing them hollow stem ones with solid stem ones. Not positive though, I liked the look of the c7 a lot more, so I gave up on the 427.

A better argument for you is that you don’t need more motor than the limits of tire adhesion and the abilities of the driver (which is very low). After that weight, weight distribution, and economy become factors.

The problem is “the Fatguy factor” where what he wants defies logic but makes some sense to a very narrow niche market. That is where the math and engineering arguments fall down. The dude talks about visceral feelings under his foot at low rpms - have fun with that argument.
I’ll make things even simpler and plain.

If you guys want a person to come around to your side of an argument easily, try to open a discussion at their level of understanding and be civil and start listening to them so they know you know their position on the matter - and then show them why your position is the correct one. Civil and respectful to each other in a genuine way and nothing coy or any form of hidden subterfuge. Just be nice, respectful of their position and if you truly know more, they will take your side because you truly know more.

Making an argument or a position that one must humiliate or self-deprecate oneself to embrace - especially in front of a large group of people - is not going to happen for obvious reasons. But if you use some measure of, dare I say “diplomacy”, the people on the other side would have come over to your side of the argument a long, long, time ago without “losing face” as the Japanese say.

This is all about “human nature 101” and not a course in engineering.

Just saying...
Ok I will bite again. I get that all you want is a big block and that low end torque. I get that you want to be able to stuff your foot in it and light the tires up. I understand that part. Coming from a car that no torque at all (2012 Focus) to my Mazda6 that has 310 ft/lbs from 2000 RPM all the way through the power band I get wanting that torque.

Here is the problem with your wants/desires, the A10 transmission. Unless I missed where you said you don't want the A10 anymore that is going to be the problem for you, because the A10 is not going to make the engine feel and drive like a big block. I have had a chance to drive a few vehicles with the A10. Stomping on the gas when you are cruising around the A10 90-95% is going to just drop gears and get it in the optimal part of the power curve and just move. It's not going to light the tires up like an old big block car would. Now it will still get out and get moving quick but after driving several vehicles with the A10, I think it's going to rob you of the "feels" that you want and not drive the way you want it to.

Can’t that transmission hold a gear?

If it’s set up for towing it has to be able to hold a gear?
