Any members made the switch from the GT350R to GT4 or vice versa and any regrets?

What things made you choose to stay with one over the other?

Thanks

I had a 70 thousand dollar Cayman S. The GT4 is in a whole other league and another 30 thousand dollars.

Depends on the usage. I had a Cayman S. On the track, the mid-engine of the GT4 coupled with the lighter weight would be my choice--which is not to say that the Shelby isn't great either. I think the Shelby (slightly higher seating position, what I assume is more storage) would be better as a daily. The Cayman has exceptional balance, which makes it very good yet boring. While I have not driven a GT4, I ultimately did not bond with my Cayman S.

GT4 is the one other car I would have considered near the price range of the R. There are times when I'd prefer the smaller size of the GT4, but that's also because I was used to smaller cars prior to getting the R.

Very curious how this turns out. I'm thinking about selling my 2017 GT350 for a GT4. Easy to say when the GT350 has not been driven since October. I may change my mind as soon as the snow melts and the salt is cleared off the roads so I can drive it again.

Until Porsche has a fix for the strut tower failure issues on the GT4 (if a fix is even possible), I'd avoid them, especially for the difference in price.

Yeah...

Shock tower failure seems to be out there quite a bit on the GT4s. That and the transmissions fail, a lot.

I have seen reports about the strut tower failure and transmission. Have not been able to find any statistics on how pervasive a problem this is (what is the failure rate). Anyone have any idea?

Is a similar issue as seen with our GT350 engine failures where some have reported but the overall number seems to be low?

Could be, but if my GT350 engine fails, I can always just replace the engine. I don't know how you would even begin to fix the strut tower failure issue, especially if the car is out of warranty. I do know someone who had the strut tower failure on his low-mileage GT4, on his second track day with the car. In his case, Porsche sent a tech out and bought the car back from him literally on the spot, and he traded up to a GT3RS. That would not be an option for me, though...
