how bad do s550's get rock chips on long trips

Surprisingly after 5 months of highway driving daily I have VERY minimal marks from rocks. I do try and keep my spacing behind people especially trucks though so to not catch their kick ups.

I will say though the paint is pretty damn soft. When I was mocking up my spoiler, just lightly setting it on the trunk scratched the ever living hell out of it.

I haven't noticed too many rock chips after 25k miles. Just buy some DR color chips touch up paint if you have any noticeable issues afterwards.

Mine seems to chip and scratch too easily - and I don't tailgate and stay well behind big rigs. Though where I live in Texas, we have 75-85 mph speed limits in some areas so I am sure that doesn't help!

After some frustration with this happening and even just to keep from removing dead bugs, I bought one of these for longer trips and it really helps:

Easy on and easy off. Just remember to turn the front wheels to get to the buttons inside the wheel well when installing or removing. Also, don't recall if the instructions were real clear, but the first time I installed it I put the clips on the plastic wheel well. They then pulled the wheel well out some when it was on. Later figured out they needed to go on behind the plastic onto the back side mounting area and that solved the problem.:headbonk:

The other day I saw a Mustang on the highway with blue painter's tape covering the entire front bumper and about 6 inches of the front of hood. May have looked silly, but it's probably a decently effective way of protecting your front end on the cheap for a long trip if you're worried about it.

This is purely anecdotal, but I use Klasse sealer glaze and I have like 4 chips in 24k miles, and I think two of them were there before I glazed it. The stuff is so strong I had a smudge of it I missed on the bumper and it's still there 9 months after my last application. I have to think the stuff has protected my paint significantly.

[MENTION=31029]Quick69[/MENTION]: You will probably get rock chips, as would any car, especially if your wheel and tire setup is any wider than stock. I have a few chips just north of the front mustang emblem, and two or three on the rear rockers after 10K miles of cross country type driving mostly.

Our paint sucks. No way around it. It will chip. It will scratch. You will cuss. Like mentioned above, get some Dr. Colorchip ready and call it a day. I have several rock chips and scratches from a lot of highway driving here in North Carolina. Think of it this way. All those scratches and chips tell a story. They are memories for you to look back on.

Btw, that bumper bra impedes airflow.

Like crazy is my experience. Lots of rock chips on my 2015 and 5 from one 1400 mile round trip to Alabama and back on I20 with my short lived 2017. I was very careful and stayed well back from trucks and cars especially when they were changing lanes. Still got them as well as a cracked window.

Put Suntek on the front of my current car. Drove straight from the dealership. So far, so good at 2000 miles.
