Are they useful with laser guns still? I seem to recall reading that by the time you get notified they've already got your speed.

Can they pick up laser bouncing off other cars at all?
Lidar will pick you off immediately so there is no warning. Some people in areas with Poliscans that fire constantly can get some scatter but usually a Lidar alert means you've already had your speed acquired.

For Lidar protection you have to go active, and Anti Laser Priority is the best in the business right now. But now you're up into serious money so you have to weigh your true risk relative to your driving style.

I've got a Valentine one (K, Ka) and a Redline on the left (Ka only) but the free app Waze is far and away my best defense.

I've used a Cobra XRS 9745 for 3 years now. I speed constantly on hi-ways and major roads (never in neighborhoods or such) and have never got a ticket. The LIDAR thing is a myth! My cheap Cobra will go off in plenty of time to slow down. They have to aim it right on your car, and being hand held, a lasar beam 1/4 to 1/2 mile long is all over the place. As far as false alarms, I only have Ka band active. No one in my area uses K or X band anymore. All those damn lane monitoring and collision detectors were driving me crazy, setting the thing off all the time.

You're throwing your money away with those Escorts and V's, and WAZE is too distracting. Just MHO.

Has anyone tried out this product called Veil G5?

http://www.stealthveil.com/
I've heard that it is used for lowering the range of laser detection giving you enough time to slow your speed. It also gives your headlights and taillights a nickel like appearance.

Veil was marginally effective at cutting the reflectivity of headlights and chrome but it had two drawbacks.

1. If you didn't airbrush it on, then it looked like sh!t. Even airbrushing gave your headlights a satin finish that looked crazed and weathered.

2. At best it would buy you 20 ft of detection before Lidar got a lock on you with those old prehistoric LTi Marksman guns but those Lidars were so dicey anyway no body knows it it was Veil or just the crappy software on the gun.

Veil is completely ineffective agains modern Lidar guns. In fact the old defense of removing or covering your front license plate is useless today. The new guns are too good. You're only option is active interference.

Cobras are known throughout the radar detector community of being horrible detectors and even worse yet they leak radar signals so they will actually cause other detectors to false alert because they are seeing your leaky cobra detector. Do some research from independent sources and watch some world tests with detectors and you will see Cobra is terrible. Radenso and Escort are 2 of the best brands. Escort Redline is best performance right now but lacks some filtering and no GPS lockouts unless you run the Escort Live system. Radenso SE Pro is up and coming for sure. Check out radarexperts.com and check out vortex radar on youtube.com. The radar detector with Waze is the best combo. It is extremely rare that there is a cop sitting somewhere that I don't already know about at least a mile in advance.

You're running the Redline in VA? Hardwired I hope.

Valentine One's range isn't really it's selling feature. It's the arrows. Nobody has cracked that code yet, it's directional sensitivity is extraordinary.

The Redline and the Radenso XP will beat the Valentine's range nowadays. But the Redline's K band filtering is horrible so I just use it for Ka.

Do a search for " keyed power fuse" in this forum and on page 5 there is a schematic that will show you the way to wire to the mirror . works great

aham23, yeah I remember your thread over there on RDF. You never posted those install pics but I'm glad I found them here. Looks great, solid setup there. I think the DFR7 will serve you well. It's Ka 34.7 is awesome.

Here is mine. Just a regular Cobra, but its saved my ass a bunch of times. Houston has a lot of X band radars so it does the trick.

I've been using the Escort 360 Max for the past month and it's worth it for the peace of mind. Combined with the Waze app, it has made driving in cop infested territory much less stressful. I'd say that 80% of the time, it's a false alarm though so be prepared for many of those. With that said, I'll never do highway driving without one again.
For what it's worth the waze app is absolutely awesome, I will never use another GPS app again.
