Waze and Radar detector here.... That said, I detected a cop in my area using Laser last night for the first time.

And he was on the Waze app too. So that would have saved me if I was going the other direction.

Too bad no one has come up with a stealth kit for cars. Something that absorbs the signals or reflects them at oblique angles that won't return to the gun, sort of like how our stealth aircraft work. Anyway, does anyone know what Utah LEOs use?

In the videos I've seen of tests, it doesn't report anything. Just waits for the speed to pop up. And we're only talking about a few seconds. Nothing that the officer will even notice. Is it enough time to slow down? I guess that depends on how stupid you were being. But, it can take a four point ticket down to a two point ticket.

This is correct, the LIDAR gun just shows blank as if they missed their target. It doesn’t return a false code or error tipping the cop off to your equipment. RDD (radar detector detector) however will so unless your detector has RDD defeat the cop will know you’re running one unless their equipment doesn’t have that feature.

You would need to coat your entire car for that to work. Including the glass.

Also there is no commercially available laser absorber material on the market that would work on a car, there are commercially available RF absorbers that you can buy right now, but even they don't work at any level that would be enough to defeat a radar. At least, nothing that you or I are allowed to buy would work...

Some of these type of products are available as a paint-on product, but currently nobody makes anything like this for laser light. You could theoretically paint your car in RF absorber and be stealthy and less visible to radar, but I assure you that you'd be not too fond of the look lol.

Your best option for something like a laser would be some sort of diffuser. This is what some diffusers (real diffusers used in photonics labs) are like: https://www.edmundoptics.com/f/ground-glass-diffusers/12287/

These shown here ^ are the cheapest types of real diffusers you can buy, and you'll note that a half cm circle is $17 and made of ground glass. theoretically you could make a plate cover out of this stuff but the entire front of your car would remain exposed and they'd still get your speed. It will also block all visible light, so things like toll-plate readers wouldn't work, and you's risk getting pulled for an obstructed plate.

Laser jammers do actually work. Veil G5 claims to be real, but its just super fishy that the entire photonics industry has not created a paint on diffuser material and somehow Veil has.

I was reading about the Veil stuff today, when looking at laser jammer reviews. Apparently, the previous generation stuff worked good. You coated your headlights, taillights, and license plates with it (the common areas they target with laser). But it caused paint to crack or something. Whatever this new stuff they make is, it's dark in color and looks like crap.

I use Waze along with Uniden R3 mounted on a blend mount and mirror tap. R3 is an excellent performer at bargain prices. Previous vehicles all had a microtap from in cabin fuse box. Ran the power cable up through the pillar and under the headliner. Both power routing options work very well. Next detector will handsdown be a Valentine.

laser jammers work like gangbusters. this one time mine went off as i was cruising behind this bimmer. flying. trooper SAILS around me to get the car in front... because when my jammer went off i slowed to near the limit and then switched it off.

i just rock a uniden these days cause i don't do much driving near dallas anymore.

I have used the ones that come with the Escort 9500ci for years. Each time you would get hit with a laser the detector would go off. While this was happening the laser was being jammed. It would give you two seconds to slow down and then you had to push a button to temporarily turn the jammer off to prevent the LEO what was going on. This feature and the way it was designed to work never let me down in the 6 or 7 years I used it. They make a new version called the redlineCI which works flawlessly. You can either use it with a regular detector (redline 360) which doesn’t work nearly as well or go with the redline 360ci, which has worked every time for me. Highly recommend.
