Hello,

I havent had a radar detector in 12 years or so and it sucked. Squelched all the time.

Can anyone tell me a decent sub 200 radar detector?
Valentine One......

I bought mine on eBay for $260 and paid Valentine One $75 for their software update and I have the most up to date one they offer.

Go here to research. http://www.rdforum.org/forum.php

I'd say an X50 Black or Uniden LRD950 should hit your price point.

If you're willing to spend a little more, I'd recommend going with a Radenso Pro with the new Pro SE model out they've go the original down to $299.

XKRJAG was 1 step ahead of me on recommending the Uniden LRB950 ($180 from bestradardetectors.net). I have the Escort 8500 X50 Black which is an oldie but goody (no GPS like the new ones have).

Thank you all for the recommendations; I think I've decided on the Escort 9500xi; got a decent price on a used one from amazon along with a mirror mount kit.

So hard choosing something worthwhile; hope this one works out.

The 9500 was Escorts top of the line just a few years ago, it still is a very good unit.

I had one a few years ago, and although not at todays best in class performance, It's still got great performance and has a lot of good features. You'll enjoy the GPS lockouts as it will become very quiet in short order. Since its used, I'd recommend erasing all lockouts (in detector tools I believe), just to make sure no actual police radar sites were locked out by previous user.

Thanks for the tip!

Do you think there is a different one I should have chosen for the $300ish price point?

9500ix is a good unit, don't be afraid of it. As to other choices, it depends on what you spent on the used one, I think Amazon had new 8500 X50's for $150 today (same unit has 9500ix, but without the GPS features, 9500ix is much nicer due to GPS).

If at the $300 mark, I'd go with the Radenso pro for $299 (new, better rangeand still has GPS lockouts),

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, you might wait, I expect some wild deals on 9500ix and/or 8500 x50s from Amazon/Best Buy/others for Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Usually its not the latest greatest that get the bargains, but both units are still current production and good choices if the price is right.

Can I ask a question on this subject a little. Haven't had a sports year in 25 years. Still have my old was a top of the line unit from back then. Sorry can't recall the manufacturer (it's in one of my old boxes in the garage). Since getting my new Mustang been thinking of trying it out. But guessing the radar gun tech has changed significantly. Am I right and it might not even detect the cops anymore? Can someone give me their 2cents? Thanks.
