Just curious as to how many of you are going to purchase one, also are you going to hard-wire it in with a fuse tap stealthily, or just use the cigarette lighter power source.

I was thinking about tapping a fuse that only gets power when the vehicle is on, and putting another switch between the power and the radar, so I can have it off all the time, and when I want it on, I just flick the switch.

I've never used one. Do they work at all?

Yes and no, the purpose of a radar is to detect when a cop is near, to make sure you dont do something stupid while one is near

in my case, I dont usually drive like a racecar driver, id have it off most of the time, but if I did want to do a quick 0-60 or whatever, I'd want to make sure it was safe.

I have a Valentine One. It has a hard wire tapped into a key on source. The wire is hidden up in the A-pillar and under the roof trim. It comes out by the rearview mirror. Even that section has a wire cover so it looks real clean. And yes they work. But they all have limitations.
As mentioned against laser they are more of a indicator that you have already been lased. With normal radar if the cop is lazy and just keeps his radar on constantly I get a warning sometimes up to a couple miles. (NJ is flat). But any cop that only turns it on to get a reading of a car then turns it off, that creates a problem if you are the only car on the road and he turns it on , on you. I usually drive on the interstate by waiting for a fast moving car to pass me and then following him. He is my rabbit for the trap.

Their effectiveness has been drastically reduced due to Audi/BMW/Lexus/Infinity putting radar in everything that moves for nanny assistance.

I use a combo of WAZE and V1 but I tend to pay more attention to WAZE these days. I do have the reposition module for V1, however. Its kind of funny because I dont really speed anymore. Its more of a game to me.

Yeah....I giggle everytime I see one of those. It's like a cassette tape.

Valentine One vs. Escort Passport Max

I've been thinking that there is a slight chance that I might want to text those ponies on my new mustang. I'm thinking that cops might pay more attention to my ruby red mustang than they do currently with my 2000 sebring. I currently use Waze and LOVE it, but it would be great to have a second 'set of eyes' to help keep my insurance down.

So I checked out this forum and read that a few of you are using the Valentine One, something I had never heard of before. I did a Google search to learn more and found this excellent article comparing it to the Escort PassPort Max: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/...ng-kings-valentine-one-vs-escort-passport-max

I was hoping for a high end system that would be hidden from sight. There is nothing more obvious when a cop walks up to your door for something, than having a radar detector stuck to the front window. Anyone familiar with built in systems? Or are either of these installable? Love to find a place in the new mustang dashboard to make the system built in.

Anyway, thanks for the conversation starter...

Where are radar detectors illegal?

I know that Canada bans radar detectors...RCMP once turned me around (or pay a hefty fine plus confiscation).
Which states ban radar detectors?
I have also heard that some police cars have radar detector detectors...is this true?

I know they are illegal in VA and the cops have radar detector detectors. Fortunately I don't live in Va anymore :clap2:

I want to use the mirror for my power source and use the mirror tap wire. Does anybody have a wiring diagram or know which wire is ground and power.
