GTD is a very cool car, but the price is nutso and when you compare it to the competition, it's performance didn't live up to the hype.

And then the ZR1 (not even the ZR1X) kicked its butt for a little more than half the price.

Like the DH SC, they just pushed the easy button for the engine. Both cars would be better with a TT Coyote instead of the supercharged 5.2

But, they built a better halo car for less. IMO
Ford GT is a halo car.

GTD is what previously you would call a "homologation special" from back when manufacturers had to actually build street versions of their NASCAR/race series cars to compete in them.

It's not a clean sheet design built to be the best of the best, it fit into a racing series with rules and limitations, based off a platform designed back in the 2010s, and built from there.

Ford GT previously destroyed Vettes, if Ford wants to make another Vette killer they definitely can.

Not quite

Larry Holt - Multimatic founder

“There’s going to be confusion… People will think that the GT3 race car is homologated off this road car [the GTD]. But that can’t be. The race car has been homologated off the gen-seven Mustang. And then we made a road car off the race car [the new GTD]. That’s pretty unique… Here we actually did a race car, and then have done a road car.”

“[The GTD] is way more sophisticated than the [GT3] race car. I mean, I don’t think anybody would not say that. You can’t have active aero on the race car. We have active aero on this. You can’t have active suspension on the race car. We have active suspension on this. So it takes a look at that race car and takes it way further, technologically.”

The GT was produced & sold so they could race it at LeMans back in 2016, so it was in fact a homologation car. Pericak said this in several interviews over the years

That's cool, I did not know that.

Hurt myself rolling my eyes at a few of these last posts
Yeah, but you have to admit it's pretty cool to check out the insides of your eye sockets.

Jesus, people sidetrack so fast on this forum.
What do any of these posts have to do with the 8 second drag strip run of the ZR1X...?
Are you expecting a bunch of Mustang fans to fall over themselves blowing Chevy here, instead of talking about Chevy's vs fast Ford's? On a Mustang forum?

I wouldn't expect anyone to blow a car manufacturer because of a car they made....that's a strange and exaggerated reference.

I would expect the comments to be about drag racing though.

As the proud owner of a 2020 Ford Mustang GT PP1, allow me to say Ford sucks atm and they need to step it up! GM is kicking their ass. I'm a car guy not a Ford guy. Chevy is producing cars that make me want to buy another car. Ford is not! Lately I'm excited reading about the new things Chevy is doing. I yawn when Ford does something. I bought a Mustang because everything about it was innovative and bad ass.

Ok, but that car will probably start around $100k. So, while they are producing some great cars, Chevy ditched the Camaro which is more price competitive to the Mustang than the Vette. You can still get a GT for under $50K, Chevy has no such offering. And there are way more buyers at the $40-$50k level than there are $100k+.

I’m all for cool stuff like a new GS, but it seems that the majority of the buyer pool is still being disregarded. The market has changed and will continue to, the desire for sports cars (at least big V8 sports cars) has reduced over the years. The “kids” these days seem to focus on the fart can 4 & 6 cylinders (I’m sure price has a lot to do with it), rather than big beefy V8’s like the Mustang, Camaro, etc. Keep the high end performance options coming, but don’t forget about the entry level trims either, that’s where the majority of buyers are.

Ford still has the $45-$50K Mustang GT, Chevy does not. For that reason alone, I will continue to support Ford (and yes, I have my gripes with them like anyone else). And for the record, before my first Mustang 6 years ago, I was as loyal a GM guy as there was for almost 20 years…

I agree 100%! They all need to come back to the $50,000 range! I used to be a Chevy guy too before the rise of the Coyotes! I have no brand loyalty to any of them. I'm a car guy!
