Who has ordered Spare wheel/tire?

Absolutely ordered my GT with a spare. The 2011 GT I had with the Brembo package did not have a spare...never needed it...but I feel its good insurance. The 15 I ordered does not have the PP package so I did it.

I'd rather change a flat than to wait hours for a tow or just have a can of air when you have a hole in the tire.

The GT PP has staggered tires; however, the Eco PP does not have staggered tired (atleast they arent mentioned on the order guide). If so, then why would the Eco PP prevent a spare from being ordered with the car? Doesn't the Eco PP upgrade the brakes to that of the Mustang GT (sans the GT PP larger brakes)?

This is one scenario that causes the questions. The easy answer seems to be "weight savings because it's a Performance Pack-optioned car". I haven't heard any definitive explanation coming from a Ford person.

I really hope that isnt their reasoning. If someone was looking to add it onto their order, they would do so knowing it would add weight (that they can easily take out of the trunk when going to the track).

I hope this can be added on at the dealer - after the car has been delivered. As in, I hope there isnt an actual mechanical reason why an Eco PP car can't have a spare...

In my truck I have a spare tire, but I also have a plug kit and most of the time I use a plug and never touch my spare.

The dealership I work at has decided to stop using tire plugs entirely and instead sell replacement tires. There was a lawsuit in California where a driver was killed in an accident and the family is blaming a plugged tire. I don't agree with the decision as I've used plugs for years with no issue.

Yea....someone people think, "I've just had a flat tire, I should slam on my brakes and pull over." then the spin and crash.

A lot of shops around here won't plug tires and from the shops point of view, I understand it. I would do the same, but on my own cars, I'll plug my own tires.

I did as well, on a EB Premium. If the 'standard' equipment is a can of fix-a-flat goo, then $174 for a real rim and tire was worth it for me.

But, [sigh...] I miss the old days when this wasn't a decision point. Charging for a spare tire, and even $57.60 for the initial tank of gas ? Apparently, it is a brave new world. I miss the old one.

I'm not buying the first tank of gas on a 40k+ car....Won't ever happen if they want me to sign on the line.

My dealer told me the car has a spare in it but the order was for a full sized spare option and it isn't available on the 19" or 20" because the spare tire well won't accommodate it. Not sure how true that is though but it makes sense.......

According to the order guide, the spare wheel/tire option is not available for the GT or GT Premium with the GT performance pack option or the 20" wheel option. It doesn't say that you can't get it with the optional 19" premium wheels.

Especially if the trade in has gas... lol. Regardless, these nickle and dime fees they tack on is annoying. And its not that we can't afford the ~$57 in gas. Its just priciple...

Tire Pressure Monitor System

In relation to whether or not to get the spare tire:

As I understand it, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System has its sensor mounted on the hub of the wheel. Anyone know what the effect of using the "tire mobility kit" will be on the sensor?

If you use the can of fix-a-flat, is there any likelihood that it is going to adversely affect the sensor? I've been lucky and never had a flat, particularly when I was off traveling, but if I ever do, and am forced to spray this stuff in, I'd hate the thought that it was damaging what is likely to be an expensive sensor that would have to be replaced.

The pressure sensor is typically part of the valve stem. It would have to be inside the tire to be able to read the pressure in there, so I'm not sure how a hub-mounted sensor would help.

Whether or not tire sealant would gunk up the sensor is a good question, one which Ford has (presumably!) thought of...I hope...

I seemed to recall, and just did a quick internet check, it seems that Ford uses a "banded" system, with at least 1 component secured to the wheel hub with a steel band. Could be that there is also a component connected to the valve-stem as well, but I just don't know enough to say.

It also appears that any tire repair or rotation requires the servicing agent to verify operation of the system, and report changes to it back to Ford.

Anybody out there have any knowledge on these systems. It appears that it was implemented in 2008, but since I have 2005, I've never had any experience with it.
