Hi everyone,

This may be a stupid question, but I wanted to see if I could set the record straight. I know the Gen 2 engine came out for the 2019-2020 model year. Do we know when Gen 2 (or GT350R motors) in general started getting swapped into cars that got an engine replacement? I’m looking into a car that is a 2017 model year with a engine replacement completed in 7/2018. I could always verify my pulling the coil cover, but not sure if the dealer would be happy with that idea.

thanks!

What does the dealer have to do with you pulling the coil cover? It just snaps off and on. Not like you're taking apart the engine.

I had a Gen 2 put in my 2018 in January of 2019.

Gen 2 motors seem to have more horsepower and flow more freely through the RPM range compared to Gen 1.

If the engine was replaced 7/18 then it is unlikely that it has an engine from the 2019+ model years.

My service write told me that they started using the Gen2 motors as replacements in January 2019. I had mine done Jan 16, so I was an early one. But my new to me 2018, with Gen1 motor has 45k miles on it now, and I’ve added 3k miles to it…and it’s not using a bit of oil. Go figure. Plus it’s on the original AC as well. My previous 350 had new motor, AC system and rear cylinder block plate done….and you know, that was a more of a pain in the ass to get approved to be replaced, than the motor. The service writer boss was being a dick about it.
