This isn't a performance vehicle? Gosh, my accelerometer may have something to say about that.
I think he meant more "track vehicle" Not bought strictly for performance purposes.

It's a sports car- same as a Porsche or a Corvette. It doesnt mean one cannot drive it as a daily driver.

I dont get why people care so much what octane gas others use and dictate how they use or dont use their car/power.

I love the folks that question what others do to their car or what they feed it, then judge them for their choice.
Performance Engine?? PLEASE~ I bought my Mustang to use as a DD. If I wanted a "Performance Vehicle" I would not have picked a Mustang. I bought my Mustang to carry groceries and my golf bag. Obviously everybody has their own definition of "Performance" and I understand that. Heck, plenty of folks ride around in their 20 year old Honda and think it's a performance car... 93 ONLY!! I hear that a lot, and I hope it make you feel good inside to know that you're running the best fuel you can provide for your Mustang, but why put others down? Mustang is able to run on 87,89,91,93 or corn fuel if you want it to. It's a freedom of choice.
435 hp and 400 lb of torque isn't a performance car? What constitutes "performance" then?

435HP and 400lb of torque on a 3800lbs car is not a performance vehicle on my book. However, it sure does make it one hell of a street car.
As I've mentioned, we all have our own definition of a "performance car" So I understand if you don't agree with me, and also apologize if I've hurt some egos. To me, high end exotics and track only cars are considered "performance car" and rest are just street vehicles.
If you ask me what constitutes "performance", well I don't have an answer for you. It's just my opinion.
My fully loaded Mustang GT is a street car and it serves that purpose well.

You can't explain what constitutes performance but still categorize cars into performance levels. LOL. I don't think your comment hurt any egos.

I don't think you hurt any egos, lol. I was just curious what your definition of a performance car is. I think that there are different levels of performance. For me, I enjoy the hell out of my loaded and modded GT and that's all that matters! To each their own, I can understand your point of view.

Well my V6 is for sure no performance engine, although me and car buddies 20 years ago sure would be drooling over the cyclone then when it took twin turbos to make this much power. And I don't notice much difference in octane with my car, still experimenting, but this makes sense with a V6.

So a Focus RS is a performance Racing car according to Ford but a Mustang GT with significantly more horsepower isn't ?? :shrug:

How about a Lamborghini that can't beat a Corvette 0-60? Lambo is a performance car? Silly definitions whatever you want them to be.

If you want to prove me wrong show me 1 single bone stock engine failure due to running 87 octane. More specifically detonation causing the failure. The coyote has been out since 2011 so I'm sure you can find one. I'll make it even better... find me one single melted spark plug on a bone stock Coyote. Surely if 87 was "detrimental" you can find me some melted plugs.



I'm still waiting FordOneTech. I was on vacation for the past week and 1/2....Still nothing.

I get 22-23mpg on 93 octane and barely manage 20 mpg on 89 octane. I didn't think there would be a difference but I have switched three times and every time it drops. The first time I thought I was being biased and driving differently but the last two times I made sure to drive the same.
Edit so I use 93 octane.

I believe my insurance company constitutes a performance car rate if it has over 300hp, our mustangs would qualify as that.

I just traded my '14 GT on a '16 and was interested to see that the owners manual recommended 87 octane. In my '14's manual, it stated that high octane (91+) was recommended for the 5.0. Regardless, I've always put 93 in unless I plan on a long highway drive.

You should put 93 in anyway on long highway drives, you'll get better gas mileage.

Depends on how the 93 octane is mixed. If they put in more ethanol to get the higher octane your gas mileage will suffer.
