For boosted people that are adding octane booster when they fill up, what octane are you aiming to get? 94? 98? 100? Etc

Back in the planing stage of my future build and I was thinking of getting a whipple with a 93 octane tune and add a little Boostane to each tank just to be sure I’m getting good octane level. Aim for 94-95.

Depends on your goals. Technically you could make basically e85 power if you add enough and tune for it. Otherwise it depends on your goals and how the tune is set up.

I personally just add a few ounces for a little protection. Not relying on the tune being that borderline.

100 octane gas vs 100 octane E85 ... Kinda. E85 has one big advantage ... cooling.
Oh I get it. That’s why I said nearly. Same boost and timing, e85 is worth a couple % more hp. I do think you could hit 21 deg timing on boost and pump gas with enough octane booster.

Just a few ounces for some protection and piece of mind

The problem is that, depending on how the tune is set up, adding octane booster may not make it safer and could even make it less safe. Case in point is the 2024 Whipple tune.

Why do you say that? Because it’s adding in more spark?
Or because it can make too much power?

Some tunes, like the 2024 Whipple, float the timing while riding the knock response. This means wot knock happens every time unless you’ve added quite a lot of octane. It’s safer to knock at 17 deg timing than at 21 because the cylinder pressures are lower at the time when knock occurs.

I run 93 on my gen 5 whipple and gen2 coyote, adding enough boostane professional to get to 95 just for added protection. I think it's a tad over 2 ounces per tank

It's a very dangerous way to live life. Briefs well on paper, but if the KS malfunctions in any way, it's bye bye motor time.

Not just that but in order for the knock retard to work, knock has to happen. Knock always causes damage.
