I installed Steeda Ultralite Extreme lowering springs onto Koni Orange with Maximum Motorsports Camber plates. I didn’t need to compress the spring at all and it doesn’t touch the top perch and it is loose inside the strut. I switched direction of spring to make sure it wasn’t upside down and had the same issue. Any ideas of what I messed up? Both springs are like this.

Here’s a quick video of how it looks installed on the car...

The springs are simply too short. They must either have sent you the wrong parts or those springs need helper springs that are missing from what they send you

Par for the course on these springs, even the slightly taller Ultralite (regular) front springs din’t seat fully in the strut perch.

Under load the regular Ultralites were fine (I had them for a few years). What I see in your photos of the Extremes is....well a bit extreme. Contact Steeda for a way forward.

I believe the front two are FD033.FSA 0620
and the rear two are FD032.RSA 0620

As short as that spring looks, I wonder if it’s actually a rear spring that you’ve installed?

I don’t know. Here are all four together. I assumed the front were the shorter ones.

I'm pretty sure the heavier gauge is actually for the rear. Front spring rate is less than rear on s550s

Ordinarily you would be correct but you also have to take into account the length of the spring. Imagine if you were to unwind the spring until it was straight, fix one end to a bench then hang a weight on the other end to see how much it deflects. It would be affected by the gauge of the wire and the length of the bar. Same case here except the bar is all wound up.

I have the right springs on the front. Steedatech confirmed that with me in a direct message. I found that the Koni orange struts that I have are an inch and a half longer than stock length. I cannot put the ultralite springs on the stock struts without a spring compressor.

edit: I spoke with a Koni rep and he says it’s normal. They say their struts don’t have a rebound spring in them like the stock ones do, which prevent the stock ones from fully extending. I ended up putting the lowering springs on the stock struts and will be selling the Konis.

So with the spring that far unloaded on the strut at droop with the Konis what would they expect to happen if you go all Duke boy over a bump?
