Vibration between 50 & 70 mph

I dont think its gear related. My 3.73 car dis it worse between 55-60 where when I test drove another on the lot with 3.31s it started later (65-75). So I thought it to be diff related and the gears just played a part at to what mph it would do it. If that makes any sense

Interesting you bring this up. My drive shaft was replaced, but the vibration is still there, albeit 50 percent better. The dealer is now looking at the differential and transmission as the remaining areas.

Update: new ring and pinion installed with no effect on the vibration. Stick a fork in me cause I am done.

Ouch! Sorry man. :doh: Hard to believe that your Miata and your Mustang were even created by the same species, isn't it? Both of my Miatas were rock solid, trouble free, and near perfect.

1stFord...That's a real downer! Are you still in touch with the FORD service rep....they have to do something for you like replace your vehicle with one you determine does not vibrate or buzz!!! Demand a replacement!!

Let me throw something out there. When the guys that had the tires balanced by the dealership as a first try at fixing this vibration, did the dealer verify that the wheel and tire were true? Meaning no or very little lateral and radial runout? You can make an out of round wheel/tire balance out just fine on a balancing machine, but on the car it's still going to put vibrations through the suspension and car.

I think someone needs to mount a camera under the car and record what's going on with the drive shaft, wheels and suspension to see if they can capture a visible vibration source under the car.

Mine did. Or said they did, anyway. Probably more likely that they just wiped their asses with my warranty and called it a day.

Also some cars apparently have the entire IRS sub-frame misaligned from the factory 1/2" left to right; bet the dealerships don't even know that to be the case. :tsk:

Humm ... I'm going to have to come up with a way to measure the left/right position of both rear tires with respect to the body to see what I see. I would think if that is true, that a 4-wheel alignment would show something like that being off.

The dealer has been pretty darn good throughout all of this, but I will have to see what happens when I pick the car up tomorrow. Ford actually ponied up a car payment for me, so I have been very happy with them as well. My only complaint is the car itself.

As far as the tires go, we put on an entirely new set of rims and tires and it made no difference at all.

The saga continues....transmission is fine. They are almost positive that is is coming from the left side axle. They wrote Ford for assistance. Ford acknowledged the issue, but did not suggest a fix. Sounds familiar.

Supposedly someone from Ford is coming out to look at the car to suggest a fix next week. The dealer seems more frustrated with Ford than me.. Dealer agrees that this is a problem and wishes Ford would assist them.

Have to say, the dealer has been excellent. Let's see what next week brings.

Atleast your dealer is still on it. Mine gave it two tries and letting me drive another on the lot. Both cars did it dealer said wait for a tsb nothing they can do. The regional ford rep also agreed.

If more dealers were like that one who also see this as a real problem, then Ford would listen better I would suspect.

Either it's Ford being stubborn or its the dealership. Or worse, push back from both.

Kind of like my situation with my half-shafts; suddenly the noises magically became "normal" & "could not duplicate" is again the fall back excuse. Even after there was initial acknowledgment of a problem including their own engineers. And BTW, my half-shaft noise is back again.

Hope you guys get your stuff fixed. With that said, I have little faith. Unlike a vast majority of people in this forum, I don't DD my GT. But still, even if I wanted to go on a nice long drive, I'll be so preoccupied with the rear end noises that my enjoyment is muted.

I only get this issue when I hit 120-130 mph.

I get the rumble from ~40 to 70 now. Unfortunately, this is the range of the speed limits for my daily commute.

This issue makes driving my first new car very frustrating.

It should not be this way.

are you guys talking about a whoople like vibration that is weird as all get out? Like back end moves side to side and you can feel it steering wheel and seat. Scary as all get out.
