86 GT, red; 88 LX 5.0, black; 95 GT black; 99 Cobra with mods (still own); ‘16 GT, PP, manual, Ruby, drivetrain vibration!; Traded for ‘19 GT, A10, velocity blue, love it.
Not interested in losing my A$$ though. Not sure what gonna happen. waiting for my Ford case manager to call. This problem has gone so wrong. I spend 22,5 on this car and I'm not happy with driving it. The vibration in addition to the seat bothering my right leg. after 15 min I'm glad to park it and get out. my 85 berlinetta rides and is more comfortable than this.
So, I take it that the dealer did not fix the car? You've driven it since they worked on it, right?

I showed up, walked in the door, SR said this is a copy of the work done. do you have the key for the loaner? said ya set it on the counter, he told me my car was out front and that I had to take fixed or not. They have done all they can do, unless ford authorizes and or requests more to be done. I drove it, told him MY shaft back in took it back where it was. still a vib. He told me to call FORD. The shaft that was in it was from one off the lot.

You read it correctly - I know exactly what you mean. The only way I could ever get mine right was a 0.000 runout flange and a perfectly balanced aluminum shaft. I STILL had to field balance with washers.

I ordered a balanced PST shaft and put it with the 0.003 flange and it vibrated so bad it destroyed the U-joints.

It is definitely not that simple to have a zero runout flange and a zero runout shaft - you are right. They have to be balanced as a set, and then it's still complicated.
Washers under the hose clamps? or did I overlook something?

Washers under the bolts that connect the drive shaft to the flange.

But there is no reason the double hose clamp method shouldn't work as discussed in this thread.

They're not gonna fix the shaft sorry to say. If your gonna keep the stang just buy an aluminum aftermarket d/s and call it a day. My stock ds never vibrated but I went with a dynotech ds when i did my build, had it flipped 180 degrees when i felt it vibrate now its perfect ... dont waste anymore time with ford. Its not worth the frustration Its now a do it yourself fix.

But, aftermarket DS have not worked for some guys... Kind of an expensive experiment. I suspect that since your car never vibrated with the stock DS, you were ahead of the game- good pinion flange, good subframe alignment, etc. It's just ridiculous that people have to diagnose and fix their own new cars that are under warranty.

Definitely call Ford and get a case opened. Insist on having a FSE come out and test/work on your car.
I feel your pain- I would trade my car except for the insanely low trade/resale values on these cars now.

Already have a case worker and number. In fact I have had like four different case workers.

Thats because people have it in their head 2 piece driveshaft the cause. I sure woudn't buy aftermarket driveshaft without proof its the cause

No way do I want to spend 8-900 for a one piece with out knowing for sure. especially if it turns out the diff is the problem. If I decide to trouble shoot myself I would start by pulling the DS including the diff yoke and have it balanced. But only if I confirm nothing is out of round or drilled off center.

Right ,they could of have run out issues either up and down or back an forth .
Very similar to what can happen on brake rotor only it probably be a lot worse with driveshaft connected .

So you won't be able to balance it out if its far off .
when machining several pieces (100's) if not more , the manufacture of that piece needs to recheck and re-calibrate tooling. If this is not done the tools gets dull and you get runout. If they measured the 10th piece of that run and then the 500th off that run I promise you they will NOT measure the same.

And in this area where I live there are a bunch of machine shops. I know the owners of three of those. They had lost business to the Chinese because of pricing. Now those customers are back due to the lack of those Chinese not following ISO. Who knows where Ford is getting these parts.

Good point, Im a machinist myself and know all about quality control, Pisses me right off when quality is sacrificed to save a buck.

One more suggestion. If you can borrow or buy a dial indicator with a magnetic base (check harbor freight), you might luck out on finding your problem, and getting an idea about what a solution might look like. You'll want to measure the pinion flange runout where it connects to the rear flange of the drive shaft. If it's a couple of thousandths, then field balancing is the way to go. If it's more than .010, check the run out on the driveshaft. This is where things get complicated. If you have a high run out flange there is absolutely no way a perfectly straight and balanced driveshaft is going to compensate for it. In fact it will make it worse. Knowing this info will settle your dilemma about whether or not to get another driveshaft.

Mine was 0.003", and to tell you how sensitive it is, no amount of field balancing or aftermarket driveshafts could touch the problem.

It's a PITA! You all are right about that!
Yup I have the measuring equipment and will be definitely checking run out, Thanks

Talked to FCS today and I'll be locating a different dealer to look at it. 2 down and 2 to go. one of the 2 down pretty much told me to go else where cause I didn't buy it there (took it there for the BU camera issue). I'll jump through the hoops if that's what it takes.
