Do you experience vibration and rumbling between 50 and 70 mph?

I feel your pain. My car has been at the dealer for 2 weeks for a flywheel....and now the bolts are on backorder and they are saying it could be 3 more weeks before they show up. And no loaner car.....aparently you have to pay for the extended waranty to get that....wait over a month for a 10 hr job...thank you ford. Ive always been a ford guy but this has been utterly frustrating. I too have the vibe but you can barely feel it. I certainly dont need to the dealer to hold my car for another month

Yes 347 Cobra I agree with you about unreasonable customers 100%. But as I said I fixed or improved by 90% my vibration by changing the clock position of the drive shaft.I have had cars with the pinion bearings totally worn out and screaming and they had no vibration at all so not sure if pinion preload makes a big difference.Never had a car vibrate because of half shafts except under load so thats not the problem. Possible pinion flange out of round? Possible ring and pinion slight out of round causing a slip/stick condition causing vibrations? But again Ford engineers should be able to figure this out,not that many things it can be. I have had 6 Mustangs between 1979-2000 with 1 piece drive shafts and none of them had a vibration. I rented a new Charger RWD last month and it was smooth as glass at all speeds.

But fox body are short wheelbase cars and there driveshaft rather short compared to any other year of the Mustang. OK Mustang II fairly short like my 76 cobraII but I was comparing S550 to bigger Mustangs. I've had 99,04's I had vibration in 99 because it eat side carrier bearings. 99 and 04 mach1 were ok but never liked how rear shifted to the side.

Don't get me going about engineers I swear they get out of school and start designing parts. They need 10 yrs of field work getting the hands dirty first.

So even after a new front trans flange, a new rear pinion flange, another new driveshaft and hours of diagnosis the vibe is still there.

Anyone else care to diagnose my car? Hell, if the Ford Engineer can diagnose it over the phone, might as well have the same "virtual" diagnosis here...

F'n disgusted.
I have to say, you're being way more patient than I would be. Here in FL if they fail after 3 attempts, you can file for buy back. They get one more shot, then have to take it back & pay you full price less a fixed per mile charge.

They have had 2 shots at mine & now seem to be looking to worm out (Ford, not the dealers) of trying a 3rd time. They actually seem to have made the problem worse this last visit. They supposedly replaced the drive shaft, but there is no record of that happening in the system ! If it comes down to it, I'll strip off all my stuff, let them have a 3rd shot then file. With only 700 miles on the car I'll get back 99% of what I paid & can move on to something else.

God I hope they can fix mine. I'm more than patient and forgiving. I had a 98 Lincoln Mark VII with IRS and it was as smooth as can be. This is not acceptable. It's my first Mustang, I hope it's not my last. Maybe I should have have bought that Accord. Nah, I'm still happy. There's a solution on the horizon I am sure, because most have no vibration, or do the owners just not notice it? I don't know. Gonna keep a positive attitude and be thankful with the dealer. Going in the morning for my first visit/ride with the tech.

I think about 30% of the cars actually have the problem and of those, many people just don't notice or don't care. If you drive all the Mustangs on any lot, you will find some that have have it. I think the fix is a trial and error process for the dealers. Ford doesn't seem to have a handle on the root cause or they are not talking about it. At any rate, it's not confidence inspiring. You flip a coin when you buy the car and you flip a coin again as to whether the dealer can fix it.
Honda's are great cars but they fall into the category of transportation appliance for me. My Civic was absolutely reliable, zero problems but absolutely boring too.

If I remember right 98 Lincoln Mark VII had driveshaft was 2 tube shaft with one inside the other with rubber between them making it one piece. That freaking thing was heavy

Just got back from the dealer. They called me into the shop to look at it running in gear on the hoist. You could clearly see the driveshaft wobbling out of round just behind the center support bearing. So at this point they have ordered a driveshaft for the car. We all know there may be other issues, but I am just happy that we all were able to SEE something obviously wrong with the car, so we will take it from there. I took a video for you guys, hope this site lets me post it.

That's incredible!

And it makes more sense that there would be a vibe issue once that spins even faster... and if the issue isn't corrected there is the probability to prematurely wear other associated parts over time (length of time who knows since there hasn't been any long term use since everyone has low miles).

Great video - keep it linked!

I take it that rubber bushing is at the bearing located between the two halves of the drive shaft assembly.

This test done on the rack to visually look at the drive shaft turning should be the first thing any dealer looks at when someone comes in with a vibration problem.

That driveshaft wouldn't vibration at certain speeds it would vibrate more faster you went. I've already checked that mine last year before snow hit putting car inside for awhile. Part of mine vibration was front wheels loosing wheel weights.

I'm hopeful. I expected to go in today and hear... We don't feel any vibration... We don't see anything wrong. Instead I rode with the tech the service advisor said I would have to make an appointment to ride with cause he was knee deep in transmission work. He said, I definitely feel a driveline vibration. Got back and went back to the waiting room. 15 mins later they found this. That's a good thing. They were probably surprised to see a customer so happy to actually SEE a problem! I was very appreciative towards them.

Sometimes they easy sometimes there not you was lucky. As a tech we always wish it was simply fix but most of the time it's not. Also we like to find the issue not give it back to you.

Well idk if this was discussed already, but this weekend I put on the lowering springs on my car and also some spacers. I realized as I was taking the wheels off it didn't require any Force at all. When I put them back on I torqued them to spec at 150lbs and the car doesn't have that vibration anymore. It feels very smooth and solid ride
