Hi all, first post here unfortunately a bad one, owned my 2017 ecoboost for about 3 months and now have a water leak when ever there is rain, (on the drivers side floor) I’ve been reading endlessly on here and other places about drains , seals and welds etc but most threads are on the US spec cars or convertibles so it’s all slightly different. Before I go to any dealerships this is my last hope to try and find the problem myself.

I’m clueless with cars But can’t find any drainage holes under any covers in the engine bay, pulled out my battery and the duct under that was slightly dirty as if it had water through it but definetly wasn’t clogged, ( picture below). and also I don’t seem to have the stickers on the doorframes like some do. So I’m absolutely stumped and of course my warranty doesn’t cover this so it’ll be coming out my pocket.

any pointers for places to check before I go and get fleeced would be nice, baring in mind I’m Right hand drive

From my experience working at more than 1 dealership I recommend going to a body shop for this. Dealerships, unless they have their own dedicated body shops, will sublet out that work anyways. Plus body shops typically tend to do to a little less damage to your wallet as far as labor charges go.

It’ll be going to ford dealership with its own water testing facility, hoping to do a deal as only bought it 3 months ago but praying I’ll be able to find the problem myself 😬

Oh, if you bought it that recently, I’d go to your sales person and see if they will help out. I know I’d do what I can to get something like that taken care of especially when something like that will be sporadic to even notice on a vehicle and not a consistent problem.

Did you dump water into the drain in your pic to make sure its not blocked? I ran into the same issue where my passenger floor was flooding. That drain was clogged and I have to stick my finger down in there to push out the little leaves that got caught down there.

pushed it throigh and it just seems to be an empty cavity underneath

Try dumping water into there and see if you hear it hitting the ground. If it's flowing straight to the ground, they you should be good...unless the water is coming from somewhere else. When I took my battery tray out, there was a good 6-8" of water under it. I have not had any water intrusion after cleaning out the drain. Hopefully you get this figured out. Good luck!

Yup, that the drain for the cowl. You should be able to hear the water hit the ground when you pour it down there. It drains behind the front tire. Let us know how it plays out.

Looks like a lot of debris residue there likely plugged just water test it then get an air nozzle wrapped with rag to seal hole and blow the junk out.
good shout but wouldn’t really have access to the air hose lol, I’ll try and get a long wire to clear it out possibly

Yep, self made expert here. Long long story but the 2 main trouble areas for me were the A pillar which the first Ford dealer i went to say they fixed but couldn’t tell you the details, also had the windscreen out if i remember correctly.

second stab at it involved stripping the interior and plugging a hole in the firewall on the drivers side. Can’t remember off the top of my head what access is like but i’ll dig out the photos in a bit when i’m at my desk.

other thing to make sure you get checked is the wiring loom. Mine showed signs of corrosion so had the whole thing swapped out which was a big job. I was unlucky though in that my issue went on for over a year before it was seen to properly.

Ok @Danny_r67 make yourself a coffee/tea and have a read of this thread https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...-windscreen-condensation-again.113708/page-12

That page has some images of the main source of my problem - being the rubber grommet not quite sealing correctly. After a good few inches of snow fell and then melted, water made its way in through that hole and down into the footwell - as I understand it.

I'm sure there are other basic check to be done such as blocked drainage ways, but I couldn't tell you how to do that off the top of my head.

One question, given that we're in the colder months...do you suffer with bad condensation - as per some of my photos? That was the tell tale sign for me, and was what kicked of months of back & forth with Ford trying to get to the bottom of this.

For reference, the first time had this issue which was badly dealt with by a different Ford dealership is this thread. https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/the-never-ending-warranty-issue.101838/

Good luck & keep us posted :)
