Well I have my hand on top of the shift knob when shifting. I wouldn't say full palm but still some very light pressure is applied. Not sure how else you would shift?

That's how I've always shifted  at no point is my hand on top of the shifter, unless I'm pushing down to go into reverse. I watched the video without audio, so don't know if there's any explanation, but that was the way I was always taught not to miss shifts.

So I have had all three. Barton is my last choice. Still a great shifter and if you can get a great deal on it, go for it. I switched from the Steeda to the MGW. Wish I didn't. Not because the MGW is bad but because the shifts on the Steeda are shorter. I thought having their own shift linkage and mounted to the transmission would help improve the MGW but it didn't. I didn't switch back just because I was to lazy to go underneath the car again. All three are great, and if you can catch a deal on any of them I would go for them.

Anybody who owns an MGW will tell you at no point will you ever have to worry about accidentally shifting into reverse. Simply. Won't. Happen.

I cant go wrong with either and I have been leaning towards the tri-ax because of the reverse thing. But how easy is it to push down to get it into reverse? I just don't like that its a push down to go into reverse. It just worries me trying to shift and the shift knob getting depressed down.

Trust, you won't have an issue with going in reverse on accident with MGW. I do miss the reverse lockout, just don't miss the limited selection of shift knobs and I hate the adapter.

You are the second person I have read in this forum who had both the mgw and tri-ax and preferred the tri-ax.

I figured. I have just never owned a manual that had a push down into a reverse or one with the R past 1st.

Well I already have a nice shift knob that works with the stock setup so I will probably just go Tri-Ax. I will just get the billet collar from Steeda at the same time.

We have a shorter throw option coming out soon. it only requires changing the upper assembly. I still stand behind my philosophy that the shorter throw can put stress on the trans but alot of people are wanting it and also have beefed up their trans.

Also, the trans mounted does indeed make it better. However, the differences may not be experienced unless you are pushing the limits.

Im curious about the reverse collar breaking. I don't have issues with mine making a sound or worry its gonna break. now I want a billet one but mine doesn't seem flimsy.

Options are great.

I know many people like shorter throw. But personally I prefer ~15% reduction. Options should make all happy.

I am curious as to why this would be the case? I'd think the longer throw would be worse, stress wise, as there is more leverage? Is it because theoretically, the shorter the throw the more force that needs to be applied to change gears?

I went with mgw. I can't speak on the others but I'm really happy with my choice. You can tell from the minute you crack the seal on the box what a piece of art their shifter is, and the pride and love they put into it. I'm serious unpacking the race-spec was pure joy! Love it. Very high quality piece that performs excellent.

I think the collars are breaking on cars with more miles on them. I first changed mine out for the Steeda around 1500 miles or something like that. The stock collar was glued tight and I struggled to separate it. I didn't see how people were breaking these under normal use. A piece of advice, get the same brand collar and shifter. Steeda will not fit on a Barton because the inner diameter of the collar is smaller on the bottom of the Steeda. I know from experience.

My Barton collar showed up yesterday. It's a real nice piece! Can't wait to get all this installed next weekend. (hopefully)
