Warning : rehash of an older post...A great article with a lot of good info. I am a little surprised the stated max torque on the DCT is only 39 lb-ft over what the GT500 puts out from the factory. I guess we'll see how accurate that is once some of you start tuning and changing pulleys.
only a matter of time before new clutch packs and calibration is released.Warning : rehash of an older post...
Mike,
I called Tremec and spoke with their service folks about getting a beefier unit to handle more torque. He advised that there wasn't anything available. We had a very pleasant discussion and he advised me to wait on any mods until enough folks had been through it.
Oddly taking photographs of their print magazine and sharing them online, as opposed to either having people who wanted this information buy the magazine or at least visit the Hot Rod website to generate some ad revenue for them, is exactly the sort of activity that pushes them closer to getting the axe. Most if not all of this we already knew but kudos to Evan for putting this together.
And thankfully, Hot Rod looks to have avoided the axe. Thanks for the scans Craig.
Max Torque on their TR-6060 from the GT500 is only 700lb/ft of torque. Rated max torque and where it implodes are two different values. Plenty of people have exceeded 700lb/ft in their GT500 witout any issues.A great article with a lot of good info. With the dsg from VW/audi, the item that usually failed was the mechatronics unit, not the transmission itself. Those dcts were ok with almost 50%+ hp increases, sometimes more, and were very robust. We are dealing with a lot more power here, but I think the unit might be ok up until around 900-1000hp. We will see soon enough. And when it all goes "boom" for trying to tweak another few percentage points, I would not want to be on the hook for that repair.
