Well I pulled the trigger and ordered the VMP Loki kit for my 2017 manual GT PP. I live in upstate NY. I’m looking to get 19x10 rims for the rear and want to go 305s. Which tires do you recommend? I know I will need a second set for once the temps start to drop. I just want something that will give me traction but also I won’t worry if I’m ever caught in the rain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going with the Nitto 555RII drag radials. But this is on a Whipple car, maybe the Loki won't like those. 😉

How are those in the rain? That’s my concern, I don’t want to be one of those where if I’m out and about and it rains and I have to stay put till it ends.

No drag radial will be as good as a regular street tire in the rain. That being said, reviews are the 555RII are one of the better drag radials in the rain. I do not have any personal experience with them yet.

I upgraded to nt555rII’s a few weeks ago and really like them. They carry a 100 treadwear rating, which equates to 10,000 miles, and an A traction rating. Keep in mind that the traction rating is dry AND wet traction. For comparison, the NT05r has a traction rating of B, and the Mickey Thompson drag radials have a traction rating of C.

I have a new set of 305/35/19's of the Nitto RRR2's ready to mount on new 11" rear wheels. So I'll let you know pretty soon.

I have no traction with my Procharger Stage II below 50 mph with my Indy 500's in 255/40/19.

The original 555r was amazing in the rain as long as it had decent tread. I’d expect the R2 to be just as good.

I run the R2s in the rain. It’s still a rwd car with a lot of horsepower but I can do 3-4K rpms and not break loose 🤷‍♂️ 305/35/20 I’ve really enjoyed the drive and will likely keep running them.

Agreed 555rii can hook power but is a streetable DR that can handle rain. I run 315s on my rear.

Just took my first spin with the R2's. I told the tire shop start with 32 psi and I'll adjust it from there.

Tires are not scuffed in yet, but I did hit in drag mode from about 25 mph and tires spun really bad.

Checked the tire pressure when I got back in my shop, one had 47 psi and the other was at 37. Good grief!

What psi are others running on the street? Have mine set at 30 right now.

The 305's on the back just look absolutely killer.

AZ18yote,

They said to fully seat the bead.

But they should have been set to 32 like I requested.

I set mine to 28. Basically as low as I can without the tpms light coming on....

But yea, mine were at 38 from the tire shop.

How did they hook after you lowered the air pressure?

m3incorp,

Don't know yet, I parked it in my shop since the first drive was to check for any rubbing and an initial baseline on how they hook.

I'll update soon.
