So just called my dealer where I bought my car, they said that they were "mod friendly". So I called them up today asking to what extent, no not throwing turbos or a tune on it just catback that I already have and maybe a CAI. They transferred me over to the new service manager that apparently just got hired and said changing anything from fords original design will void your warrant. Like wtf, first they tell me it's okay but now no? I had a buddy with a 2014 gt and we had that thing modded out with everything except forced induction and his dealer couldn't have given two craps about it. Has any body else ran into this yet? And no before someone says put it back to stock and leave it, I'm not taking my $1300 exhaust back off.

Your fine. By law they cant reject a warranty unless whatever it is that you did has caused the issue. Dealers also cant "void" your warranty.

Consider going to the dealership's general manager first. Maybe the GM will get this service guy pointed in the right direction.

If that doesn't work, you can complain to Ford, and frankly I would recommend you take the time to do so. Ford wants to know that this dealership is irritating. Ford will do their best to whip the dealer into shape.

Ya no one is going to tell you to put your stock exhaust back on we don't care. Find another dealer and do some searching and you will find the same answers you have been given

We have an influx of consumers here at M6G who buy $40k+ cars with intentions of modifying them, and don't know anything about the Moss Magnussen Act.

I know about the moss act, I just know how dealers can be about telling U they ain't fixing it and to screw off... Ford has done it to us in the past, the dealer is putting on a car show on Saturday im going to, I'll talk to the owner while I'm there about it. If not there are a couple other local dealers that we have worked with in the past that have been alright, But the inner 13 year old child in me wants to do the full race tune and the works lol, thanks for the input guys, was just curious if anyone else's dealer has thrown them this line

I'm speaking very vaguely here, and not specifically about the OP's situation, but something to consider before bashing the "dealer" when "Ford" denies a warranty claim.

Why would the dealer want to "void" your warranty.

From the dealers perspective, they want to warranty your car. If your car comes in and has a tranny go out, what are the options.

1. (Under warranty - Consumer gets repairs made - Dealer receives payment from Ford - Everyone is Happy)
2. (Not Covered - Consumer can't afford repairs - Dealer receives no payment - Lose/Lose situation)

Hmmm.... from a dealer perspective, they want to warranty the work. This insures that they receive payment, can bill work hours, and have a productive work day.

Ford denies the warranty work if they feel that you were at fault. Not the dealer. The dealer is heartbroken at the news of this, as they know that you won't make the payment out of pocket.

Even worse, you will then go bad mouth the dealer. Who only took the car in and got the bad news about not being able to cover the repairs under warranty.

Changing the cat-back exhaust in no way could ever be traced back to any issues. It's after all measurements are taken so even if they tried to prove it effected something in the tuning or motor, they couldn't.

My dealer will order Ford Racing parts and install a catback (Borla Touring). They wanted full price to order through them so I went with American Muscle w/discount. Dropped off the exhaust NIB and car to the dealership in the morning and picked her up at lunch time.

Ever hear of someone getting random electronic issues on their car, and it turns out thay their aftermarket exhaust was improperly adjusted and melted some wiring under the vehicle?

Yes, an aftermarket exhaust can create other issues.

To anyone modifying their Mustang, yes you are protected by law from having warranty work denied due to modifications, but do you have the time and money to fight Ford when they hassle you over your mods? Telling them that you have legal rights isn't going to scare them.

I'm pretty sure the reason they aren't scared is because they don't think you'll use your rights.

In this case (and many of the ones we hear about here) its the service advisor denying it IMMEDIATELY without even finding out if Ford cares or not.

What you say makes sense, but then you have the control freak service managers like OP and like Montebello Ford (which starred in another recent "your warranty is voided" thread). Montebello Ford told the guy he wasn't eligible for the brake squeal TSB because he had painted his calipers! Guess they didn't want to get paid for a brake job.

I am here to tell you that if some hoser of a service manager tried to give me a line about how my cat-back voided my engine warranty, it would be the LAST time I'd be in his service bay, and I would name names everywhere I went. That kind of bullying is really irritating.
