Hey guys looking for some guidance and insight… so I want to go with the Shelby GT-H rear spoiler on my 2019 convertible GT. The guys at Shelby said it installs with 3M tape and no bolts… will this be secure enough? Right now I have the OEM “bump” that‘s installed with tape and bolts.

I personally prefer a spoiler that bolts in addition to 3M tape. That said, there are quite a few aftermarket spoilers out there that are only secured by 3M tape. I haven’t heard any stories of spoilers flying off cars but I’m sure there’s potential for issues if it’s not installed properly. I would not get a spoiler that is only secured by 3M tape if you plan to track the car at all either.

As long as you prep the trunk lid correctly, it will be ok. You will have to remove any and all factory glue off the truck that your factory spoiler leaves, then clean with alcohol and lastly use a good adhesion promoter where the new spoiler tape will be.

Thanks guys… no tracking, but I want it to be solid and no flexing.

I'll second what 22 said. Just prep correctly. I have my side scoops on with just 3m and never had an issue.

I would be afraid to install a spoiler with just 3M tape since Ford bolted mine down to the trunk… Ford probably knew tape would be an issue.
Bolt or go home based on the laws of physics and prior Ford testing.

The 3Mtape does last ok. Not sure how long before it fails but its kinda a great product. If it falls off, then you know to get one that bolts down next time.

my guess is it will be fine because its mostly cosmetic trim. :p

I have hopes of one day going over 165mph in my car... 3M tape? I think not.

(but then I don't want a spoiler on my car anyway)

It won't fail if you get real 3m tape, not knock off, the correct size for the project and install it properly. The tape on my side scoops has been up for a few years now and even with some serious wind hitting it while driving they are just as tough as day one. Dirt and water is the most common failure of it so it has to be installed really well without any kinks or gaps to not allow anything under it. Always a good idea to use adhesion promoter.

Really appreciate the input, guys… I do have the Ford parking lamp curtains and those were also only installed with 3M and they feel pretty solid. I may just wait for the weather to warm up to do the install.

You could, theoretically line up the spoiler to the trunk, tape where the outside lines on the trunk itself of where the spoiler sits, drill a hole through the center section of the trunk and then you can see the hole from the underside, now tape down the spoiler to the trunk and mark the hole with a sharpie to the spoiler with hole you just drilled, coat the new hole with paint, and drill a hole through the spoiler that you marked and put a threaded riv nut on it and boom you got two holes in the center of the spoiler bolted down and the outsides are taped
