It has a flange with a hole for the bolt. The bolt actually squishes the flange into the firewall. If you remove it, you'll need to put it back...which was a ton of trouble, so I just yanked the whole assembly out. Obviously, the hole on the flange, where the bolt was, got stretched so it slipped out.

If you don't plan to put it back, just yank the whole thing. For the record, and not trying to offend anyone, I've seen a lady do it with a ton of effort and like 4 tries, but she yanked it out.
Time to do this later today, even though I have the front section already removed and capped off.

This seems like such a useless thing to do. I plugged up my sound tube after disconnecting it from my Intake, then plugged the intake port. Essentially removing the sound tubes function without removing it.

I don't want to or plan on removing it but wanted to see what the hype was about. I was disappointed greatly lol. The only real reason I would remove it is to gain space / clean up the engine bay.

The difference in sound is negligible at best. For the people that say it makes a huge difference, placebo is a very powerful thing.

People that have been treated in a control group with plain old sugar pills have experienced the same results in some studies as the people receiving actual medication. But to each his/her own. This is just my opinion and remember opinions are like assholes, everybody has one ;)

Jus' sayin.

Didn't make any difference in terms of performance IMO.

I removed it mainly because its fairly large, and its just more plastic that retains heat.

Useless junk, so it left the car.

I'm my opinion, the sound tube does bring sound into the cabin, that's exactly what is was designed for. There is no other reason why this is needed on the car but to heighten the driving experience. (as Ford says)

I removed my 1 week after I bought my car. The sound of the engine coming from the front and the sound from the exhaust coming from the rear are no longer competing for each other. The exhaust only tone is very smooth. Hard to describe but I like it. The only down side is now that it's a little more quite in the cabin, I hear the clicking of the gears as I shift, but I can live with that.

Removing it does make a significant difference in cabin noise. Maybe some people aren't sensitive to those frequencies but I could tell a big difference. My engine bay looks a lot cleaner now.

Yeah, I ripped mine out. Actually gave way very easily, I think it helped that the car had been driven around prior, so the plastic was softer and just gave and nothing actually broke, it just stretched enough to go over the bolt.

I can tell there's less noise in the cabin, which I appreciate when I'm cruising on the freeway.

Can anyone give me the dimension of the sound tube hole in the firewall so I can put a properly sized plug in it? Thanks

I think it was a 1" and I had one in had to attempt this. Problem is, access. Cannot get my tree stump arm/hand down there deep enough to press it into the hole. Maybe from underneath? I just used a small piece of gaffers tape.

I yanked mine out as well. My arms couldn't fit in the space between the STB and FW to install the plug for the hole in the FW so took a suggestion from someone in the forum and took off the gas pedal and installed the plug from the inside. 10 minute job and made a pretty decent difference on the interior for me.
