Why didn't you just remove the bolts on the STB and swing it out of the way? That's what I did and there was plenty of room to reach down to the hole. Took a little silicone grease and lubricated the plug so it slipped right in!

To me it was easier to just zip off the 3 nuts with and electric gun and zip them back on for the gas pedal. Either way works really.

Regardless of the method used, removing the sound tube means having to plug the hole at he firewall. You can do it from the engine bay side or from inside the car behind the gas pedal.
Got it. Without looking at it, I just had assumed the bolt was left behind and we're pulling the plastic around it.

Thanks

How are you guys reaching that 10mm. Shipload of extensions and a swivel? My hands don't even begin to fit. Doubt I will be able to even plug the hole.
1/4" drive setup.

Long extension
swivel
10mm Deep

Play with positioning until you get a few clicks per turn. Much better result than "just ripping it out."

From the top or underneath ? I see people do it either way and plan on doing this soon
Thanks

from the top.

Disconnect all of the other points on the sound tube first. You should be able to bend it out of the way to get your arm down there.

The nut is flanged, so when it got far enough unthreaded I swapped the deep socket for a standard.

This makes me rethink even caring to try it  it's takes up space and it's useless but I'm afraid to even start trying to take it out. I know once I start I'm not gonna quit till I get that thing out.

Yeah, that's what happened to me, I start and I just have to finish it. But it's not that bad. Just get your wife to undo that bolt, those skinny arms and wrists reach in there no problem-o. Worked for me! ;)

Getting the plug in there is tricky, my bride didn't have the strength to push the plug into place and get it to lock so I ended up ramming my arm down below the manifold to get on it. I read somewhere the firewall hole is also accessible from inside the cabin down near the gas pedal. Wish I had known that before. Some lovely purple and red bruises around the elbow for a week or so after, but it's done.

I just did mine today 1/4" drive swivelhead rachet and 10mm deepwell socket piece of cake . I did not remove strut brace or pull dipstick n I am a pretty big guy. The frickin stud is way longer than it needs to be and they had to use a polylock , but it wasn't all that bad .

I just attempted to rip it out, I was confident going in because I'm pretty strong but I failed. At this point I just have the sound tube disconnected from the intake and the intake is capped so the tube is just dangling lol. Works for me. I don't lift the hood often anyway

If you have a shock tower brace, remove the bolts and swing the driver's side end out of the way towards the front of the car. This will give you a lot more room. Then detach the sound tube at all points and take a slotted screw driver and pop open the crimped clamp near the space capsule-like part so you can completely remove half of the tube. The back portion that's left can then be easily twisted and yanked to pop the rubber grommet away from the nut. Coat the rubber plug with grease and I guarantee that it will slip easily into the hole on the firewall. A side benefit is that your oil dipstick can then be easily reached.

Underneath is easier, just remove the steering shaft and it's pretty open down there to remove it. 10 minute job max from below.

You don't need to remove anything guys . Come on , I'm 59 and a big man and I was able to get to the nut with a 1/4 "flexhead rachet n 10mm deepwell no problem at all . I did'n remove the strut brace and I didn't take out the dip stick . You also don't need to rip it out. It's not really that complicated .

To get the plug into the firewall I stuck it to the end of my long 1/4" extension with a ball of masking tape.

Tape held the plug to the extension until I could push it into the firewall. No bruises.
