I just found a 1" chair leg cap at ace hardware that fit nice and snug. I then put a hose clamp on for good measure, but it wasn't necessary. I just wanted to try it out so I left the sound tube half way on the plug.

I expected things to be much quieter and didn't really think I'd notice a difference in driving. I did the install in the ACE parking lot so there was very little down time to skew my perception. I fired it up and.... hardly any difference in volume. I just no longer hear it from the front and the biggest difference is at the initial start up.

The way the car felt after surprised me. I really wasn't expecting a difference but it's there. It's like if you were to drive a car with an air leak and finally plug it. Engaging the clutch felt a lot smoother and required hardly any pedal movement, and the car doesn't feel like it's lugging when in second gear in a parking lot. That's basically it. No big butt dyno feels, but the car feels like it has less hesitation at part throttle. Healthier would be the best word.

So you left the back portion still connected into the firewall?

I want to take the whole tube set-up out to clean up the engine bay a bit but I am dreading it. I am hopeful that I can work the tube off the nut without having to get my hands in there because I don't think my hands are going to fit. I looked at it on Saturday and its going to be tight.

The air raid kit came with everything needed to delete the whole thing. Just saying for those of you who are going to buy a CAI setup AND a sound tube delete kit...why not get it all on one for one price?
While I do really love my Airaid setup, I'm about to swap it out for the Steeda closed CAI. Had the Airaid had a larger MAF opening, even if you remove the insert, I'd have probably kept it. It's a great intake for going back to stock too if you need. Has one of the best looks (especially when you put a Ford badge on it) and the airbox is top notch along with the IAT's. If I could have picked an intake to have stock from the factory, it would have been Airaid hands down.

If I wasn't putting on a ported 18 manifold, I would keep my Airaid, but I want to increase the flow even more.

That's how I left it for about 3 years. When I did my manifold install, I yanked that back half it out and then got the cap in on the firewall. A little easier from underneath the car.

It'd be nice if Airaid offered a tune-required version w/ ~105 mm MAF. I'd be all over that. I guess there's an insert that can be cut out?

The race version has the insert removed but its open box. Otherwise, you need a dremel to cut out the insert and remove it. It takes you to about 110 MM once the insert is removed which is not bad, but then you move to the tune required field. JLT and PMAS are 120 MM, Steeda CAI being 121 MM.

Depends on pedigree. The 15-17 JLT is 110 mm. Lund has told others it's not worth the upgrade to go from 110 to 120 when they've done 18 manifold swaps. GT350 and Roush are 105. Bigger will make more top-end power. Smaller will help with low-end and transients. It's a balance like so many things.

It's more about the fitment than it is the size I would say. The 18 JLT fits better with the 18 manifold and the tube increased to 120 mm on that one.

Hoping I don't ruin my low end setup with the Steeda. I'll be hanging onto my Airaid incase anything happens. I just have to decide insert versus no insert. As long as the driveability is fine with no insert around town, I'm fine with it.

I doubt you'll have an issue with any of them, when tuned for the size. You might just notice a little more low-end pep with a smaller one (which isn't the reason you're going '18 GT manifold...so who cares).

Very true! Can't wait for that 8k redline.

It's intoxicating! I took a friend for a ride who's already bought the stuff to do the manifold swap as well. He's totally hooked after that. Quick shift 3-4 on the highway at ~7700 rpm. :D

I can definitely feel the car die off around that 6000 mark with the stock manifold. The tune certainly wakes it up in the lower to mid range a ton, but there's still that extra bit more on the top end that it needs and the 18 manifold is the answer.

Yeah I just left it. I already scraped my hands up enough just trying to work around the stupid engine cover. It really doesn't bother me, tbh. I was just sick of the sound.

I picked my dad up for dinner tonight, and he even commented on it. Mind you he hasn't even seen the car in at least a month, and the first thing he asked was if I did something to the exhaust because it sounds more "clean." Well let me tell you lol.

The engine bay really does look so much cleaner without the sound tube!
